keeping the frontend above output stage rails should give less distortion at powersag which might happen especially this high of power
I suppose you could lower supply voltage, and have 2ohm drive 😎

That, and to get rid of increased dissipation in the output stage if both driver and output were fed from the same supply. The normally-blocking diodes between the supplies are to ensure the drivers will never be without power/current even if their own supply malfunctions. This stops the driver transistors from becoming a damaging load on the circuit driving the VAS and being damaged themselves. (no collector current = base current wants to supply demand = boom)
