13" to 150" eBay Fresnel Projector
Does anyone have the plans to make the 13" tv into 150" projector w/ the use of a Fresnel llike all those auctions on eBay?
I purchased a 8 1/2 x 11" Fresnel from Office Max and would like to make this project just dont have the necessary plans and layouts.

1. Cut fresnel into many small pieces.
2. Throw away.
Really though... this doesn't work very well. You may get a blurry trace of an image when it's pitch black, but It won't really be watchable. But, if you want to experiment I suppose these directions are as good as any:

Yup. But save the fres. get a lcd and compair. If knowledge is all you seek from the tv fres. thing-$ well spent. So that when you go LCD you will KNOW the true diff. I do. The otehr prob with crt is they are curved usually. Which means BLURRY no matter what you do. Either edge is in focus or middle not both. Plus the box needs to be RIGHT in your line of vision. This makes it difficult to see-plus just sooo bulky and such. Most DIY lcd units are throwing about 10' to screen. Thats much better and box size no big deal. Get a OHP and a projection panel-100x better. Not cheap but is anything. Its quick results that are good. Better can be down with some serious modding. Even OHP's waiste tons of light that anyone could do better job at containing.

Howdy All.....
I have been here many times trying to read as much information as I could and I now understand confusion. I think I have no idea where to start. I have to much information, there are 30 or so lcd panels to choose from, and 100 or so OHPs to choose from. I'm just more confused. And now people are building much cooler looking ones. I understand where this guy is coming from. I was first attracted to this by the glitz and glamour of the 13" TV becoming a 150" BIG SCREEN. Just like on ebay. And for only 13 dollars. So being as poor as I am, I decided to look around and ended up finding the free plans that are all over that these jokers are selling on ebay.
So I went to Office MAX.. spent 7.69 on some optiplex frsenel lens. I was to curious not to just try it and see if it works. I built a quick hack job/no where near lightproof box for my lens. It freakin worked. I couldnt believe it. But of course the image was upside down. And it will never be completely in focus. Dont even try to use it on a computer monitor. I did watch a brief bit of Top gun on a slightly fuzzy upside down 50" wall TV. Tried to flip my TV once, but everything turned green thats a bad idea.
But on the bright side. It worked even as crappy as it was. And I was hooked. I have been reading sites, looking at prices, scouring ebay and generaly loosing sleep ever since. Wait.... thats a bad thing.
The only problem is there is not a definitive help type guide for newbies like myself. I figured we could call the frensel lens and the cardboard box idea super ghetto. And the entire thing can be built for under $10. What I need is the next step up. I want a cheap projector and a cheap LCD panel. Everyone recomends at least 4000 lumens, not many of the ebay sales even state the lumens. I almost bought one for $30 that was 2800 lumens, but I kept second guessing myself because of everything I read. What do I do... I am losing sleep, I can't stop looking at this site and ebay. Help a NEWB out....

A link to plans....
This link has 6 different plans for the incredibly not worth it fresnel box idea. It did inspire me to actually find this place and want to make a real one. So inspiration comes in many fashions. Sometimes when you want to go to the moon you have to start by jumping from a chair, this was my chair. Now I want to go a little further.

Re: 13" to 150" eBay Fresnel Projector
If you are doing this for the hell of it, I would say go for it.
If you are doing this to have a serious big screen TV, then forget about it. It sucks to say the least.
Maxtheater is making a fortune on EBAY off of their crappy package.

I like these because they talk about some optics and stuff. If you're going to do the 100inch TV projector, you might as well learn something along the way. The 100inch TV thing is fine for learning, or just as a fun project, but don't expect it to be something for your home theater.
I dont even think it's worth while to learn about. You were right the first time.
... throw it away 🙂

made it this weekend is really amazing i got pretty good quality picture with a 10 fresnel @ 50" using my sony trinitron monitor and dvd player. I turned the brightness all the way up and had it focused pretty good. I cant wait to get my overhead projector so I can use my new QA-1150.
