Here a way to get the Ascent,Ascent i,an Odyssey,to give a much better vertical dispersion on the back at the top this crossbar tunes the sound an roll down the highs see pix.....This can be removed...an these speakers well move much closer to the Newer..Summit type sound...like a new speaker
you speakers well have to be kanted back more but this is why the Summit type lean back so much...i have a pr of Summit here now an the Ascents are much closer to there sound with this mod.... An i may like the sound of the ascent more, the Summit all open type panels can be a littel all over the place....an have to be closer togather to get good image...an you can just put the bar back....6 screws .....This mod would work with the older type but would have to be cut...I well be doing a Pr of SL3,Ariesi.
This gives much better bass that i find starts at the top on these fast panels.
Better sound all the way a round...

12X48-44.....is the sweet spot for ML panels...The Summit,X an other two way...at the 12"W...I had the Summit here for 25 days....lot of fun.
But dont over look this Mod, if you have the older ML....or you have diyed a panel..open the top as much as you can...if it to brite , lean the speakers back....I can say that the sound of the Ascents with the open top mod..in most ways sound better than the Summits....the vertical dispersion of these Panels is held back, there tuneing the hi-mid with this vertical block...even with the Summit it about a 1 1/2"Block at the top...an all the way around..so the sound you get is tighter...not as open, not as much air....i have got to refame the CLSs panels an get the top of the panel open.. The stock frames are set up to block Most the vertical dispersion...I think this is what has been missing from the CLS...you well get more output for sure.

Judging by the SL3's weak cabinet and frame and the deliberate improvements made in the Ascent (which is a beefed-up SL3 in every regard), I don't think removing any structural parts is a good idea (esp that critical top brace).
seems a hand full of screws and a listen are warranted if you don`t like it what have you lost but a little time. Best regards Moray James.
Ascent
THe Ascent Panels is close to the SL3 panel....an the Panel well work in the SL3 it 12"w 48"L like most ML is using to day ....but the box is diff, an one look you can see..
But the way thay have mover the panel Away from the box... is much diff.
The SL3 used the box tune the panels...an thats what there doing with the top brace in the Ascent...I find that with the 12"W an 48"L panel this can take some of the Air an Low bass out of the sound...funny the lows start at the top...
This is like the Sound of Zip-ties...Thay suck the life out of sound...when there in a Amp wiring or speakers crossover wiring...there are much better Sounding way to do this...so i see the Zip-tie an just for shiping...ones you have any Amp,speakers or any thing that has them in it set up in your home....to get better sound take them out...most well say bull... but i find with them out any thing sounds better...It all about geting the best sound out of ESL, Amps, Preamps... If you can hear the diff in speaker wire...you can hear the diff with Zips out...I no most well never open up the Speakers...amps what ever but this is DiyAudio....thanks for you time
