Anyone ever build a 5F1 amp using 12V heaters? any extra hum/noise to deal with? I have a nice 12V PT, and some 12V6s doing nothing,,, Got some NOS UTC output transformers I want to try in that circuit...
Thanks...
Thanks...
I have used a 12AB5 which is a 9-pin version and it did not seem hummy. Mind you I only breadboarded it and later made a P-P amp with the tubes.
HA,,, I used the aluminum chassis from a 12AB5 amp for the first 5F1 I built... I'm building this one as a test project for some output txs I recently found,,, want to use 6V6/12V6 to keep them as close to the original schem as possible, rather than use the amp I already built...
Thanks for the input...

I can't think of any reason why a 12.6V heater would be more noisy than a 6.3V one....12V heaters...a nice 12V PT...
But if you really want to remove all trace of heater hum, why not power the 12V heaters with a 12V DC (switching) power supply? They are common and cheap, and you may even have a few lying around the house unused.
I don't think I'll ever use AC heater power again. Clean DC from a cheap, light, compact switch mode power supply is a much better solution.

Thanks for replying,,, I've read your posts and absorbed a lot of ideas!!!
I built a 5F1 amp a few years ago... Point of this build was to test the sound of some NOS UTC output txs I got a few weeks ago in this circuit,, first thought was to just swap out the OPT in the first amp, but then I won't be able to A-B them,,, and I don't want to mess with it as I enjoy using it most days!!!
Totally agree with DCV heater circuits, as I use them in audio builds... In the git amps, I try to match the designers plan as close as possible, to hear the sound they are famous for...
