I have a brand new FAST TL finished in satin black lacquer for sale. It’s hand crafted by a master cabinet maker out of all 3/4in Baltic birch plywood. Beautifully finished in a dozen coats of hand-rubbed lacquer for a satin black tinted finish. Perfectly tuned and balanced. The TL damping was hand tuned using DATS impedance measurement for optimal bass response and low group delay. Premium crossover components on custom PCB. If you want to hear what this speaker is all about, and many people have built it, you can buy one ready to run (RTR).

It is in my shop and list price is $2995 and will ship anywhere in CONUS for $425 via FedEx.

This speaker is 83.2dB at 2.83v and 1m sensitivity after baffle step. A true 8ohm load and never dips below 7ohms. One of the top 3 speakers I have ever heard anywhere. You will love the sound.

This one looks just great. I think I still don't use the full potential of this speaker, I'm sure I could improve the sound further with tuning of the damping...

"One of the top 3 speakers I have ever heard anywhere." ...and it leads to the question about the other two :D was the XSD amongst them too? Just curious :)

Hi Plott,
These are the others, not in any order…

My own foamcore synergy using ESS Heil AMT-1 tweeter with B&C 6MDN44 midrange, and DSP active amps with patented ring resonator horn 4-driver subwoofer that I helped design for Mobius Acoustics.

Wesayso’s Two Towers (25 driver line array). I listened to them in person at Wesayso’s home in the NL.

And now, the XSD speaker which makes the FAST TLs among the top 4. :)

@xrk971 where did you get to this these? I like the look of your XSD, but am looking for a larger sound with more body that bigger drivers tend to offer...

No, Did that too! Haven't built speakers ina few years so I am on a tear. The XSD drivers were just to have spares. I thought I would try the smaller version of the fast speaker out of the foam board stuff.....later the drivers can be used in the TL version.

Most of the pics here are on dead links, can you give panel dimensions for the small version? I think I will build it from the foam material first, until wood cab can be made)bought. One other thing, dimensions in article say "at least 10 inches wide" but gives width dimension as 8 inches? Driver is this wide ...

10in wide external baffle dimension is important for crossover. Internal dimension using 1in thick XPS foam makes it 8in internal.

Other critical dimension is 7.0in CTC spacing for woofer to full range distance.

Third bit is internal volume of 24 liters(+/-1 liter). This affect bass for sealed. Some people have made a reflex box with simple tube vent to get more bass. That’s fine but won’t sound as tight for timing.

So you can adjust depth and height to suit.

Thanks for bring up broken links. That happened when DIYA switched to new software.

I updated page 1 to show the 7.0in CTC requirement.

Thanks

Yes. It’s near plywood sections. Comes in 4x8 ft sheets or 2x2ft sheets. I got the latter. Easier to bring home. Costs more though but tends to be perfectly flat.

The current XO assumes a center mounted (not offset) full range driver.

I used thin 3/16in thick subfloor ply as facing skin to allow wood screws to bite.
