I loved the giant foot tracks in the sky, and half the time wondered how they did some of those displays... realy gobsmaked. One of the better ceremonies I have seen over the years...
I guess authoritarian regimes always have a knack to put on really great mass displays.
Remember the olympic games in '36 in berlin, germany?
With what ease any human rights violations on a continuous basis get swept under the carpet because some idiotic display and idiotic games organized by a thoroughly corrupt group of gangsters called the IOC who are responsible to no one.
Enjoy.

imo the best Olympic ceremony.
Sport and spectacle aside, more than human rights, I’m much more concerned by the host’s growing environmental impacts.
Though I believe that China has recently shown the first steps of at least recognizing the problem, unlike the other two developing Eurasian giants. Different countries, different priorities . .

Slept on the couch and kept the TV on so I'd wake up in time for the 4 AM opening. Thought it was great but my legs are a bit weak now. Methinks Cal needs a nap this afternoon. 🙂

For a man who admits to beating dogs, you've got to spend a bit more time in your own head before casting stones.
They had an article on the news today....
Apparfently the foot prints in the sky as seen on TV, was all CGI....
Took them over a year to make...

Did anyone notice that they pumped air up the flag poles, so that the flags would fly on a very still night.
Also I think that the last torch bearer's torch had a built-in igniter, the torch re-started a couple of times.

The little girl who starred at the Olympic opening ceremony was miming and only put on stage because the real singer was not considered attractive enough.
