Earlier in October and November, we posted some details of a preamp for our own Le Monstre 2024 :

Finally, Fran found some time to finish both the power amp and the preamp for listening.

We have now everything proven, and can publish in time before 2024 comes to an end.
For 2025, we still have some refinements for the ladder attenuator planned, as well as building and measuring with other transistor combinations.
In the meantime, happy reading.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Patrick

More pictures.

PS Note the nice little black cable clamps and the mains switch cover at the front.
3D printing comes handy. 😊

Actually we have also considered some other buffers with JFET input and BJT output (as the Le Monstre).
A good example is that from Dimitri Danyuk :
https://audioxpress.com/article/bui...rent-buffer-with-jfet-input-by-dimitri-danyuk
We managed to simplify this into a 4-transistor circuit.
But this cannot be classified as vintage.
So JLH gets the vote.
Here is also a spice file to play with.

Another buffer considered, vintage but not BJT output was the Borbely buffer :

The nice thing about the Borbely is that it is very easy to change the gain.
Not that you need any for the Le Monstre.

The Talema / LM317 is the same as we used in the F5 Preamp.
The local discrete regulators come from our previous headphone amp projects.
But you can use any 78xx/79xx compatible ones.
For example LT3045/3094, bit limited on voltage.
