Audioquest. Nordost. Furutech. Chord Company.
They make all these products, some quite expensive. But do they do us any good?

Don’t have a broad opinion, but i have gotten a couple AudioQuest cables, and if i needed, i’d happily buy one oftheir tiny DACs.

Since this a considered to be a hobby and not medical science, I say buy what you think is cool, and if you like it, buy more. Be happy. What any of this stuff does for the hobby is no different than what other accessories do for other hobbies. I have seen some really expensive wheel covers out there. The vehicle doesn't run better but you kind of feel better, right?
I like to think that people should be free to openly point out ******** when they see it. Otherwise what are we? Some kind of magic circus?Since this a considered to be a hobby and not medical science, I say buy what you think is cool, and if you like it, buy more. Be happy. I know that this is 'old fashioned' and even a stretch, but from my personal perspective, I find one hell of a lot that we are sold today to be BS. I really do. A new iPhone every year is just the tip of the iceberg, but it sells well. Given many other peoples' perspective, I usually just keep my mouth shut and hope that some out there can separate the wheat from the chaff for themselves. The result however is all around us in practically every category.
We I'm not one for buying a new iPhone every year either but they are considered to be fairly well designed products that do what they're supposed to do, with no made up claims. Not a good comparison.
That would only really be true if they did good / impressive things. They're run by con artists imo. They’re run by magicians and wizards.

There are a forums that I now avoid, because of the disingenuous salesman rhetoric around tweakery that gets pushed there. I’m a bit dismayed by what gets posted by seemingly intelligent professionals who should know better.
Everything is pushing something now, even nobodies on YouTube doing fake reviews of awful products as a side hustle and making bad faith claims just to get a “Like”.

What do we reckon? Give it a day before the thread closes? 😉
...refocus your mind on something positive.
Those companies help to redistribute wealth and put food into the mouths of their employee's children - that must be a positive thing! 😉
Just how did we get here so quickly? Free speech and all of that plus the ability to turn the tube off. Ixnay out.
My mind is focused on something positive - trying to get more truth into consumer audio.Miller i suggest you refocus your mind on something positive.
haha, that must happen to some extent. I'm sure a few people at these companies are VERY wealthy, however. Those companies help to redistribute wealth and put food into the mouths of their employee's children - that must be a positive thing! 😉
Probably. I got another 1 month ban at Pink Fish forums today for posting ASR videos. I was told in the ban notice: "You have been banned for the following reason: Persistent trolling/agenda. We are not interested, take it back to ASR.. Your ban will be lifted on Jan 4, 2025 at 12:00 AM."What do we reckon? Give it a day before the thread closes? 😉
Thing is the ASR videos are educational and ASR make no money from YouTube on them. You see no adverts in the ASR youtube videos.
Those dragonfly dacs are pretty good within their price points. I am not a fan of the high end industry in general although I once aspired to be a player in that field. I quickly learned that marketing is what makes the world go 'round and sucked at it. BS sells, the actual truth generally doesn't. So blame human nature for the success of questionable enterprises whatever they are. I find the fanaticism at both extremes amusing since I have no stake in the game at this point, and puzzling because it blinds them to the obvious. They are all deaf to even slightly opposing viewpoints, and that's as true here as anywhere. I use cheap pro cables - I mean if they are good enough for the people making the recordings I play I guess they are good enough for me.
Oh I mix solid state components and tubes in my own designs so you should absolutely dismiss anything I say as suspect. 🤣

Not nowadays. They're outdated technically and bettered by much cheaper devices. Plus why buy from a company that straps batteries to their cables which actually act as an antenna, picking up interference? Those dragonfly dacs are pretty good within their price points.
The "both sides" kind of comments are pretty tedious btw.
What I see of the "both sides" comment is that the specs only people will get excited about 'improvements' in performance specs that they admit are beyond the audible range.
We end up with one side buying new things because someone says it sounds better and the other side buying new things because it inaudibly measures better.
And the tech side tends to be more evangelical in their approach.
