I managed to fry the expensive AlNiCo drivers in one of my Omega "Super High Output Monitors." Eventually I'll probably order a set of drivers ($$$) to replace them, but meanwhile I have a question about whether any of the Mark Audio Alpair drivers might work in the cabinet. I would close the second opening occupied by the low frequency "helper" driver and run it full range, unless the blown helper driver turns out to be a good passive radiator (not likely, I know). I'm looking at the 11MS right now.
I think the volume of the cabinet is about 40 liters. The cabinet is treated internally with R compound.
Fool's errand? Fun and exciting adventure?

24"x10"x14" (61cmx25cmx36cm) external dimension. Rear port is flared from 3 to 6 inches. The cutouts for the drivers are about 6 inches. My putative plan is to block the lower driver opening and to use a full range driver on the top cutout. I will reinstall the ports.
I briefly considered trying to rewind the voice coil, but the outer assembly is welded on. I see no way to non-destructively take the driver apart. I imagine the answer is to cut into the surround from the front. No, thanks. Of course the safest answer is to buy replacement drivers; Louis quoted me a fair price, but I can't afford it now. I would reveal the price, but I'd rather not, especially if Louis had made me a bargain offer. I'm the original owner. These pictures really hurt for me to see. . . .

If it's 40 litres, CHR-120 will go in reasonably depending on tuning (won't be perfect if you can't adjust but probably ballpark) -you'll need a blanking plate of course. And go easy on the old volume knob. 😉
Thanks. Tuned with an inductor and/or a capacitor by prayer and ear, I assume? I don't play music very loud.
Looks like CHN-110 would work ok if you tune it low, but you will need to add a port tube on the back, obviously.
Old Fostex FE167e would also work, but you'll have to scour the planet for a decent used pair, as they've been OOP for ages. Probably closer in overall sound and eficiency to your original drivers.

I'm okay with lower sensitivity drivers, as long as they're >~90dB.
I had the knockdown Fostex back-loaded horns with FF165WK's years ago. I know the FE167e's have a great reputation, but the '165s sounded pretty good to me.

Yes, not a bad sounding driver. A little rolled off up top for some. 40 Liters is getting a little hefty for the 165WK, but will work if you don't mind a little scooped out upper bass, and a bump up at 50Hz. They will certainly rock with 5 watts. They worked very well in FHXL boxes.the '165s sounded pretty good to me.
What amp are you using?
jeff
40 litres is pushing it for CHN-110 -it's only a 5 1/2in driver remember. Assuming about 1/2ohm loop resistance from speaker wire, connections etc. & a voltage source amplifier, 30 litres is about the limit for a Helmholtz based vented. That's why I suggested the 120 as 40 litres is a rough mean, & it can take upwards of 55 providing you accept the limited power handling.
Scott,
Eyeballing the image of the cabinets without drivers and with set square across the cut outs, it looks like the cutout is approx 5.5" - 5.75" - that would be too small for the CHR-120.

It is, and it's efficiency is probably too low for the OP's requirements anyway. Guessing he's using a low powered single ended tube amp of some kind.40 litres is pushing it for CHN-110 -it's only a 5 1/2in driver remember.

I have five amps between 1 and 50 wpc. I already ordered a pair of CHN-110s. If they're not good enough, then the one undamaged Omega speaker will stay in the bedroom in a de facto mono system until I purchase the "right" drivers. I'll report back in a few weeks with an update on how things sound. Thanks for your help.
I was thinking CHN110 off the bat, 40 litres is a bit much (but an approprite volume of “briicks" at the bottom of th e box could fit that…but it looks like this thing takes 3 drivers (or a driver ans 2 PRs)?
The CHN100 is really quite good and dirt cheap… helpyou with affording the pricey proper ones earlier.

Yes, good catch. How I missed that I don't know.Scott,

Dave,
Looks like 1 wideband, 1 helper woofer and a port at the back - pic that I found through Google search attached for your reference.

A one and a half-way?

I promised some CGRs for the CHN in a couple threads.
Here is the free plan. https://frugal-phile.com/boxlib/P10free/SmallCGR-CK110-plan18.pdf
If anyone wants to beta test the bigger ones, email me

After a few days with the CHN-110's, I'm satisfied, as the drivers have exceeded my expectations. I thought they sounded a bit threadbare in the midrange, but after a few days, I guess they've either broken in enough or my ears have subconsciously compensated for their sound. I'll probably be happy with what I've got and just play music. I relegated the "helper" driver to function as an unconnected passive radiator.
I was surprised that my micro-powered LTA MZ2 preamp/headphone amp could drive them to decent levels in my room with a subwoofer. That's 1 watt per channel. About 75dB with the volume control at 2 o'clock, with Air's Moon Safari playing.
Now I have a single perfectly fine alnico full-range driver sitting on my shelf. Maybe I'll use it for a mono full-range open baffle.

The CHN-110 will be in the needs a 100Hr plus to break in. They do break-in.
