WTB Turntable motor

Wanted to buy
I haven't really narrowed down what I'm after. Building a belt drive with a high mass platter. Was considering the sota total eclipse package.

If you have something that may work, please let me know.

Don't feel I really have it in me to start something from scratch right now.

Dude Sota total eclipse is 1500 bucks and you have nothing you can play! Particularly since you "don't have it in you" Why don't you just buy a brand new TT or splurge on a used micro seiki from japan? Just saying with all due respect and in the spirit of friends not letting friends burn their money...😉

I hear you, but I'm enjoying the plinth design and the piecing together. I can put together a nice turntable and when I'm done my speakers, preamp, amp and so on I can build a motor.

I like the to get a project going and pick away at it.

Total Eclipse owner here. It's an amazing upgrade and would be a simple turnkey option for your project. It may depend, though, on your plinth. Give Sota a call and if Donna can't help you, she'll pass the questions to Christian who can definitely help.

Might be of interest:

Everything can be made at home if you have a small workshop.
Just 3 professional studio turntables.
Asynchronous motor direct drive. Own arm construction.
Works up to a 5kg plate! Plinth is self-made and everything.
If you are interested I send pictures of many solutions as ideas

Would love to see more pics. Eventually I will definitely look to make my own motor solutions and hopefully tonearm. I have a decent workshop and access to good CNC.

I guess since you are posting about the Sota package you don’t want just a motor?

I tried getting the Total Eclipse a few years back. I placed the order, pre-paid and waited for months on end…it never came. I called and they still didn’t have an ETA on it so I canceled the order. I hope they’ve straightened out their supply issues or whatever the problem was.

I ended up building the SG4 project with the Anaheim 3 phase motor. No feedback speed correction, but even with belt creep during warmup (about 30 min) the speed shift is usually less than a few 1/1000th on my Roadrunner.

I’ll be using that in a secondary system soon.

I eventually found a NOS 20 Amp Eagle/Roadrunner package for sale and bought that for controlling any other tables I had plans to build.

I still have a Pheonix Falcon controller sitting on the shelves because I didn’t have a motor that required less than 5 Amp I was interested in using.

I’ve got a few VPI Hurst motors and a box of various Dual motors from 1019s and the like (not sure of current ratings).

If you were interested in it and want feedback speed control you would need to get a Roadrunner for that feature.

Hi chrome nuts, btw your posts helped me choose the sonido field coil and I absolutely love them, so I thank you.

I was thinking the total eclipse because right now, the vagaries of motors and controllers is beyond me and it's a simple plug and play...but if someone had a nice motor for sale I would dive into the research and see if I could make it work.

The more experienced may not realize how steep the learning curve is even with such a great forum. Just you posting that project gives me a jumping off place for research.

Are you selling the Phoenix falcon?

Glad you’re enjoying the Sonido drivers. Which ones did you go with?

I’m currently reworking the baffle system I had them on to make it more flexible to try other combinations…along with other projects.

I mentioned the Falcon because I thought that perhaps it might be better used by someone else than just sitting on my shelf.

I tend to hoard things.

I got the 096 and I would say they are exactly what I was after, at a good price.

I'm working on a new frame with the same goals, something that looks and works good long term but also has flexibility to try different types of baffles... although I'll be limited from going much bigger on drivers due to the frame position it is made for an 18", 12" and the 6" sonido, so still tonnes of drivers I could try that size or smaller.

It's going to have a removable frame extension at the top, to use a tweeter or no tweeter or up or rear firing tweeter depending on future experiments. I figured why commit if I'm not sure yet...

Regarding the Phoenix, it seems useful to me I'm going to research some more and try to learn about it and how it fits what I want to do.
