I have an Eltax Symphony 6 crossover. It is designed for an 8 ohm woofer but I'm using 6. The tweeter has a 5w 1 ohm resistor. Should I remove the resistor to re-balance the frequency response?

The difference in output load will cause abnormal behavior of the filter because L's and C's values depend upon them. Resistor only attenuates current in the tweeter only.
Keep all the parts, you may need them. Set the simulation up, then you'll know better.

Because I assumed the 6 ohm woofer would be more sensitive than the 8 ohm. Subsequently, I thought reducing the resistance of the tweeter may balance things out. However, on further thought, I realised the change in impedance of the woofer will affect the crossover frequency so . . . bygones.May I ask why?

Second order tends to be more stable on the frequency. Here's an example with and without the resistor and it's a little more predictable than changing the impedance on 1st order.the change in impedance of the woofer will affect the crossover frequency
