Hello,
If I want to replace the woofer in the old ALTEC A15-8A, do I need to replace anything else ?
Sorry, I'm a beginner !

If you get a replacement woofer that's an exact match to the original part you're good to go, just replace it.
If not, then things could get quite complicated.

Is it the 3154 woofer? 16” and a foam roll surround? If so you can get them from Great Plains Audio. Not sure where they might be available closer to you.
Should be......... Hope so as I 'drew a blank' on all the other reconing listings I have and found that Orange County, the main one I use to recommend when appropriate, has closed. 🙁

Thank you very much. Are there two sizes of 3154 woofer ? 15" and 16" ? The speakers are still working, behind the screen (in a cinema theatre), and not easy to access to.
As a quick solution and easy to find, what do you think of this one : JBL M115-8A ?

You're welcome!
No, just 16". At a glance, no, specs too far off; you ideally want them to sum < +/- ~10% to the 3154's to maintain good speech matching.

You might have trouble finding anything other than an original. The Altec 15” frame is 16” and the mountings holes might give you trouble. You can rotate the woofer and make new holes but you need a basket that fits the 14 1/8” cut out.
Yes. The Altec 16” is really a 15”. The cone is the same as other 15’s but the frame is a little larger. Altec’s own literature calls it a 15 and shows the frame as 16.
The Dayton DC 380- 8 Classic 15” woofer has good numbers as a replacement, but the baffle cut out is smaller than the Altec so you would likely have to angle the screws to get a decent bite and of course you would need a gasket.

Right, it's just the way you phrased it had me remembering the 16" frame's bolt holes are on 15" centers, so wondered if that was what you were referring to.Yes. The Altec 16” is really a 15”. I learned this the hard way on an 803 replica replacement order for an early A7-8. Had to cut out/replace the OEM baffle.

I'm very grateful for your precision and passion. Actually, I rushed to find a solution that didn't "measure up" to these speakers. I'll try to let it repaired or replace it identical. Great Plains Audio hasn't yet replied... have you got an idea of how much a 3154 woofer could cost ?
You don't need to send those in to GPA to be repaired, they can be rebuilt by anyone with access to the correct parts and skills. GPA will sell the recone kits but they will hard to get a response from via email. You should call for help during business hours during US central time (GMT-6). You will also need to find local recone servicer. Sorry have not had any of mine repaired so can't say for certain on cost. What exactly is wrong that you are trying to get fixed?
Yes, it will be fixed here in Paris, but I was wondering how much could cost a new 3154 woofer at GPA...
No clue about repair cost and TTBOMK they no longer make replicas, just the few listed on their website, FB page, but as noted, with the proper kit anyone with a steady hand and a bit of patience can do the re-cone.
What reconers can rarely do is drain/zap magnets, though the 3154's ferrite normally only needs it if really abused thermally at super high temps (outdoor events) and/or over long periods of time (PA apps or decades behind a cinema screen), so considering your locale, best to have it done with a GPA kit and quite frankly/all things considered; would personally sell them if no magnet drain/zap option for both and buy some modern 'close enough' spec replicas from one of the local prosound manufacturers.
