Anyone upgraded digital filter in DAC's or CD player from DF1700 to SM5842? Some pins are compatible but not all so adapter board is necessary.
I recently upgraded a DF1700 to the DF1704 with an adapter. It was a very nice upgrade with good improvement to the sound. I wonder how the SM5842 would compare... but I'm also exploring NOS. NOS is sounding quite excellent also.
DF1704 is not good as SM5842 but if you hear improvement in sound than is ok. How did you get NOS work?
Have you compared the 2 side by side? I'm curious if you know of the differences. The NOS is on a DIY PCB in a different DAC.
DF1700 and SM5842 are pin compatible at least for main signaling. Not all pins are compatible and require some modifications.I don't know if DF1700 can be just replaced by DF1704. I think for NOS work DF1700 should be skipped. Direct I2S signal should go to the dac chip.
