I'm building a pair of speakers and want 7" by 5" 1/8" thick backplates all engraved and stuff. Local shops only do thin plates for trophies and the like.

Great free design software, too.

Hi Rayma. I talked to them today. They wanted $293.77 for 2 plates. That just seem way overpriced to me.
Finishing of the parts is expensive.
Same thing happens with the Hifi2000 chassis from Italy sold by diyAudio.
One small chassis in stock form, $60. each.
The exact same chassis, with drilling and printing on both front and rear panels, $200. each.
This is what it costs.
You could have the thin, finished plates made, and attach them to plain thicker plates of the same size,
which would be cheap to make at sendcutsend, etc. Steel material laser cuts very cleanly.

So get a thin plate with the engraving you want, and glue it to the thicker plate. Drill and enjoy. 🙂Local shops only do thin plates for trophies and the like

Look into jlcpcb.com
they do 3d printing in metal and cnc stuff too. just upload your file and it gives you a quote.

I have used PCBs for faceplates and backplates. Gold on black looks really nice and it easy to add text, graphic, holes, etc. It is cheap to get 10 boards made. Three PCBs glued together is work as well as 1/4 inch aluminum.
You could always get artistic and etch your own. Probably a lot more fun than ordering out.backplates all engraved and stuff.
LOL it is a nice plant.
Overall speaker render pretty nice too.
Far as engraving have only used trophy manufactures
and it was laser.
Next time will just be metal foil labels.
Didnt like the laser look on large letters

Laser cut steel will have very clean and sharp edges, and can be painted, polished, etc.
Cheap to have plain pieces made. There's a total minimum order of about $30, but
you can order several unrelated pieces to make up the total. Lots of materials available.
Free shipping. Great deal if you don't have a metal shop.
