Hi,
sorry if it is a somewhat dumb question (and I'm asking it in the FR forum because I would use an FR "above" the woofers): is it a no go to use two different woofers in an OB? I mean one with high sensitivity and another with a lower one, in order to eliminate the baffle loss. And the whole thing with a passive xo.

I’ve used OB with different woofers. 15+18”, 2x15+8”, 2x18+12”. As long as you get the crossover right it works very well.
Your fill in woofer should not be too difficult.

Wharfedale SFB. Troels did similar, I think he has links in his article.
Cool, many thanks.
I thought about the 12" Peerless (from the Manzie). XO sim shows good results, I think I'll give it a try.Your fill in woofer should not be too difficult.
Decades ago, the Magnavox company, who produced expensive console stereos, used a system of two different woofers in some of their consoles.
Each woofer had a different magnet structure and build, and naturally resulted in different resonant properties.
When installed in the console, this "smoothed out" any peaks of bass that would result in "one note bass" booming.

Actually it can work with only one high sensitivity woofer and a baffle step compensation built in the XO. See Troels' OB11, OB15.Decades ago, the Magnavox company, who produced expensive console stereos, used a system of two different woofers in some of their consoles.

I have the 12" SB Acoustics Bianco OB woofers. What would you use with the Peerless?
reasonably priced, and seems to work reasonably well.I’ll have to look into the SB woofer. I have not heard or seen it.
SB is on a roll! 🙂
I have see Alpha + beta in a good Ob, to me alpha up balance the beta+floor closenessHi,
