I just stumble on the web with this
http://www.gedlee.com/SPEAK/Speak.aspx

looks like the works of Dr. Geddes is not that popular in the DIY community
never heard of him before
http://www.gedlee.com/Loudspeakers/Loudspeakers.aspx
he designed interesting "plastic" enclosures
using common B&C drivers

Lol, are you sure?
Just ask the man himself: Dr. Geddes has been a member here since 2004.
One of the more popular topics on this forum is about his waveguide knowledge:

Another subject that's often debated is his Multi-sub approach:

Most regular members here do know who he is, I can assure you 😉.

Just start reading his posts and/or papers 😉, Mr. Geddes has a lot to share with us, after a long career in Audio.
A valued contributor to this forum, and still active.
Easier if you know what to look for, a DIY version of his Abbey speaker:

I hope you did find your way to this subforum: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/forums/subwoofers.63/
Or, maybe more appropriate if I link that same forum filtered by the number of views:
https://www.diyaudio.com/community/forums/subwoofers.63/?order=view_count&direction=desc
That way You'll notice the Tapped Horn (or TH) rising to the top, a subwooferdesig by Mr. Tom Danley for PA purposes.
Mr. Danley is a designer for https://www.danleysoundlabs.com/ and his subs, as well as his Synergy/Unity horns are quite popular here as inspiration for DIY projects.
Mr. Danley isn't that active right now and hasn't logged on in quite a while, but he has shared a lot of his views and inventions on here.
Personally I think he's brilliant.

Hey all,
I've been experimenting with SPEAK, but am having a terrible time. There are numerous notifications about not being able to save, and yet somehow if I hit Exit, once in a while it saves something. I managed to get a new driver with parameters saved and a new enclosure... but nothing changes in the Plot window (even after clicking on the Update button). I managed to save a project, but I can no longer do that. It seems that all I can do is see the Default Plots.
Now I'm getting "Record is locked" in the Enclosure parameters window. And a "Sub 1 - Bad data description for the front acoustic lever" notification when trying to Update the Plot.
I'm rather frustrated 😕
If there are any pointers, I'd really appreciate it!
P.S. I realize Dr. Geddes is on the forum, but he's acknowledged that he doesn't support the software by offering it for free. Hoping to find another DIYer to help in the meantime.

No, @diyiggy . Vituixcad is not capable of doing the things Speak can.
@Tieftoener this sounds like a Windows problem. Maybe due to changes over time, the original API doesn't support the current permissions scheme or directory structure, I don't know. Your best information might come from Dr Geddes himself. At the least find out what the API was and research using it on your current system. If you're lucky Dr Geddes might have a recommendation for doing this, but I wouldn't guarantee it given the way things can change.

As SPEAK is a 20+ year old software, I presume that Windows 2000 or even Win98 is the most trouble-free environment for it. Or WinXP, as it is similar enough. Maybe try virtual machine with those OSs, or even an antique laptop?I've been experimenting with SPEAK, but am having a terrible time
If it's a matter of an older program not compatible with latest Windows versions, it may be worth trying out running the program in a so called compatibility mode, there are tons of articles and posts on the internet on these kinds of compatibility issues, here's one to begin with:

This is the route I would go. I use a Windows XP virtual machine, hosted on Windows 11, to run Akabak.

Would be neat to see if someone could build an acoustic lever. I'm not aware of anyone who has, except Geddes.
After spending the afternoon in his audio room, I went straight home and ordered 4 subwoofers.
This is, as one might guess, my goal. 🙂Would be neat to see if someone could build an acoustic lever. I'm not aware of anyone who has, except Geddes.
Thanks to all for the recommendations. I'm running Win10. I'll do some experimentation with XP or 2000. I don't think I have an NT machine around anymore, but maybe Win10 can emulate that too? I'll look into it. Again, thanks!
