Audio Precision SYS2522

Hi all!

I was given a Audio Precision sys 2522. It's got all the parts and cables, but I can't seem to find the software anywhere. Darn discontinued equipment. Looks like they could have an archive of old software.
Anyway, Does anyone have the installer for this beast?

I think you need to search for the 2722 which is basically the father of all those system 2xxx variants.

oooh, that is old junk, prepare yourself to repair that soon! I bought the same(made in 2000) 3 years ago and did replace some Fairchild logic(stop working when getting warm) on the DSP board 3 times!
So the good idea was to replace all these logic chips at once, but an even better idea do not buy astronomically overpriced AP at all because you can easily outperform SYS2 performance level today with ADC/DAC 😉

My 2722 has developed a problem ... The output levels are about 1/3rd of the settings in the gen panel.
Single ended as well as balanced, and for both channels.
Setting output to 1V gives about 354mV. The distortion/noise performance is not affected, only the level.
I was thinking, 1/3rd is close -10dB, which is 316mV, so maybe some 10dB attenuation relay got stuck.
Looking at the documentation (I have the S1 schematics, which are largely also valid for S2), I don't see any 10dB attenuator or gain setting.
Any idea where I should start looking?

Is there any major difference between APWIN and AP2700?

Regarding soundcards vs AP I do believe there have been wonderful cards for the past 10 years already, but the main issue with them, at least in my experience, is the output noise of the generator and offset when you use it to measure a phono amp, and the fact that al measurements are really highly level dependent.

My 2522, and I believe 2722 the same thing, has residual analyzer's THD+N -120db@1k with the sine source DAC+LPF(THD+N something like -135db, Cosmos APU shows me -132db). APx555 about -125db.
However, 2522 loopback THD+N just -117db in the best case i.e. AP's gen is worse than its analyzer. About the performance level, I don't know any sound card with ADC's THD+N close to -120db. External ADC based on modern ESS chips may have THD+N -125db@1k without notch filter.

PS: for all AP analyzers is a good idea to use a higher input range than auto-selected one, in case if you evaluate the H3. If you looking for the 2nd harmonic, better to keep auto-selected or lower range(the same for the THD+N to minimize the noise).

Thx for the reply!
I am about to get a 2522 just this weekend perhaps. I thought TDH+N on the AP was -113db and -120dB for the APx555.

I have been successfully using a simple combo with emu0204 plus spectraplus for analysis. I observeddistortion is level dependent, plus you are limited with the max input (1-2VRMS)when you try to evaluate something. Also I have problem measuring a transimpedance stage Thwt has very low input impedance using a sound card. The generator will produce a bunch of harmonics.

Since you have a sys2522 would you ever consider selling it and only use the audio card or a QA403?
Can you think of any pro and cons of ap vs a sound card based system?

Thanks!
