Walked in a hardware store's lumber section, and while randomly walking past 12 foot kiln dried 2x8s of redwood, I saw the impossible ... the last 4 feet of one of those boards was burl. When I flipped it over, it was all the way through identical.
Thinking they may not sell it to me, I walked up to the lumber counter with it and the person told me I will just charge you for 8 ft , since that last four feet is all just trashy burl that can't be used. I only paid $22 for the entire board if I'm not mistaken. Took the four feet to a sawmill and had them slice it 3/32" thick slabs. Therefore there is a seam I tried NOT to hide. I wanted everybody to ask me why there's a visible seam down the sides, where I can tell them because it's made from a redwood 2 x 8 that could have ended up a floor joist!!!

Flaxxer,
Nice job with the build! The Speedsters look great. 🙂
Have you been able to give the speakers a good listen?

I have listened some. Crazy bass for a 4" driver. They only have maybe 3 hours on them, truth be told. I was offered a lot of money for them recently. Nope. Redwood like this is rare.Flaxxer,

This was so hard, it allowed a sawmill to take 3/16" slices perfectly without chipping. This is KD lumber. Finished with shellac, because it has a beautiful amber color naturally, wbich makes the redwood look like rich peanut butter color! I'm going to work on the finish more.Pretty.
Isn’t redwood soft like western red cedar? How did you finish them?

Awesome Speedster build Flaxxer!! Good decision to go with the slot port, I can hear chuffing from the rear round port in mine. That 4” TB moves an incredible amount of air!!

Very nice cabinetry work, very nice finishing work. They look spectacular.
How much did the mill charge you to slice the board into veneers?

Thank you Jim. They charged me $40. The standard per hour cut fee. The guy was actually excited to do it, because he had never tried ripping a 2 by 8 that way LOL. He was as excited as to be when he called me to tell me how flattened perfect they came outVery nice cabinetry work, very nice finishing work. They look spectacular.

Incredibly clever and they look absolutely stunning. A bit of serendipity to stumble across that floor joist, and to recognize the potential. Wow. 😀
If Flaxxer's slot port has the same cross-sectional area as your round port, that slot port will be more susceptible to chuffing because its perimeter dimensions are larger than the circumference of your round port. A round port has the smallest possible perimeter dimensions than any other shape port with the same area. If Flaxxer enlarged his slot port and also lengthened it to create the same tuning frequency as your round port, then it could have lower chuffing because it had a lower air velocity.Awesome Speedster build Flaxxer!! It is all compromise. The miniOnkens purposely have long hugh cross-section vents. Over many hundreds of builds no-one has complained of chuffing.
You need to do some extrapoation with a standard sim to ad din the affect of the added R in the vent.
I avoid round vents if i can.
