funnel of love - would a cheap planter function as a horn?

it would need a nearly ready made and cheap 10 liter back chamber

Hi AllenB

with expected top end of around 800Hz, perhaps the angle won't matter so much (?)

Without seeing the product I'll assume its something like a trash bin in its size and price area and may flex far too much to work (?)

Do you think the directivity response sim will ballpark its real balance?

I look at those things every time I'm at the store in the garden section and dream of what could be done with them. I agree with Allen, that pot would be more of a wave guide than a horn. Nice that you ran the Hornresp sims on that one. It works better than expected.

I've sometimes seen plastic planters with a slight bellmouth to them, it would be much easier to cut a hole for the driver in plastic - and provide some way of mounting. I believe someone made some horn loaded speakers out of toilet bowls. Each to their own...

Lol 🙂.

What we have is proof of concept regarding the beamwidth on the assumption of 45-55 degrees at 800 and 2 octaves. (Which was my first guess as to what Freddi wants)

In reality there's much to be trimmed. 😉

(reality sometimes ain't a good place to be)

does the predicted rise considering directivity effects in hornresp occur with some speaker -horn combo and not others?

Consider my Edgarhorn100 midbass measurement vs a rough estimate of it with hornresp. The power response prediction looks pretty close to what I measured on-axis. (there may be a bit of rise - what do you say?)

It probably would be an outdoors toy.

Usually found objects aren't quite right. This one looks very not right 🙂

I think you'd be better off making a less compromised horn from scratch, e.g. cut and join rigid insulating board to make the structure, then coat it for outdoor use.

Polystyrene + truck bed liner

XPS + cloth "fibreglass"

that boat link is much appreciated and would be a good way to build a folded horn.

I'm old- poor health and house got hit hard by mice when in the hospital 2019. I really need to liquidate some horns to make space for my Karlson hobby

Edgarhorn100 pair - Peavey FH1 pair - various horns including Altec 203B pair - tube amps - etc.

In your situation, I'd tweak some of that existing gear rather than build something new out of junk 🙂

"I'm old- poor health"

I suggested building with foam with that mind. It doesn't require a lot of strength, just time.

This one is similar: Lots of patience needed, but not a lot of strength or tools.

IMO a hybrid could be fun. Get some bendy ply or corflute or whatever, and use the techniques in the last link to extend a horn that you already own.

"this" is where I have the most fun

a bendy ply reflector small (10" or 12" woofer( K-coupler with internal K-tube would be a lot of fun

my 18" K below is very good sounding. WVL's drivers look fabulous

I've way too much stuff -partly as not driving for over 25yr but still collecting. (no way to move excess to storage)
