Hey
Plan to build a old school large 2-way, perhaps petite Onken, or altec 612, or similar. Found a pair of Fostex H320 wooden horns (tips for a 1” cd going low would be nice, or if building an adapter to 1.4” is more clever, would probably work).
There are some old Emilar ew15-8a 15” woofers available, together with Emilar Ec175 and upgraded Emilar crossover of 800hz.
From some old threads, it sounds like the Emilar elements are compared favourably to Altec etc., but do any of you know? Or even have data for especially the woofers? (I read fs of 21 hz, likes large cabinets, was in a 220l box).
Maybe worth a gamble? Or better keep looking for a 414 / 416 / ? (Really hard in Sweden..)
Thanks in advance 😬

Hi, The box size sounds right. I used a pair of similar Great Plains Audio 416-8B (alnico) in an actual Altec enclosure of as near as I could figure 206 L. Lovely sound. I could not get the horns and drivers to match so I used SEOS 30cm wave guides with Radian 475PB drivers the crossover (12db/oct) worked out best at 1700HZ.

Thanks Bruce - I hope to be able to keep a bit under 200l, but not sure what could work unless having input from people like you.. and not sure these drivers are great or just old and I would be better of with a Faital Pro 15pr400 or a more common Altec. - have you ever came across the Emilar stuff?
Thanks GM !
The seller had them in 220liter bas reflex cabinets that also container the bowtie horn, While searching info there is another pair using the same cabinet, also Emilar crossover, I would think that is some kind of original Emilar box or maybe from cinema as both are based in Sweden.
I am reaching out to the other guy, who compared that build in a good way to Altec A7, will post any info here if ok by him.

Found some info about some hyped up version of the ew15. I guess the hemp is not original, some data in there, not sure its the same for the original but maybe.

Here's something you don't see every day..... an Emilar 15" guitar/Bass/ M.I loudspeaker......
..........Let alone, rebuilt from the inside out with a hemp fiber cone AND dust cap!!!!!
.. Have a seat, this is gonna' be a LONG one!!!!
This is one of a small group of 15" Emilar loudspeakers which were recently acquired at PMR in Ohio, and were completely re-fabricated from the inside out , with the intent of being absolute Altec and JBL killers..... and that she is!!!!... this listing is for a single speaker.......
Emilar is a fairly unknown, ultra high quality and performance loudspeaker company whom was based out of Anaheim California.....Everything about them is over-the-top, as far as build quality, materials used, and final performance....
These(this one) was completely stripped, cleaned, and sent to paint where it was re-finished in that bright red high enamel coating.....
The magnetic gap was verified with a flux/gauss probe, and was PURPOSELY not de-magnetized/re-magnetized... it measured just fine, so it was left alone. Some people say these old magnets sweeten with age, and after hearing this one, I have to agree....She's basically a new unit again- ONLY BETTER!!!!
There's simply too much to describe, so I'll give you some details.... :
Frame- cast aluminum
Magnet- 21 pound magnetic structure/radially heat sink fin cooled
Core- Core vented/alloy
Front mounting gasket- Rubber/chip
Rear mounting gasket- poly foam-rubber
Hook-up- Standard Screw terminals
Litz Wires- .044" diameter woven cotton conductors
Spider- Treated textile/flat profile
Dust cap- re-pressed hemp fiber/centrally screened!
Cone- Re-treated HEMP-O hemp fiber cone
Cone profile- 22 Gram/Conical/straight profile
Voice coil- Treated paper former!!!!
Impedance- 8 ohms
SPL- 98.8dB
Frequency- 45Hz-4.75KHz (+1.5dB@ 250-550Hz)
Power- 100 Watts RMS (conservatively)
nO%- 1.86% !
Voice Coil Diameter- 4 1/4"
Surround- Hemp Fiber/ReZon-Ex Ring Treated
Tonality- Fat, thick, powerful, and MMMEATY!!!!
This one is incredible!!.... Every little feature, detail, and component all operate together to give you a product that truly is greater than the sum of it's parts.......
A PAPER former voice coil, capable of 100 watts and over FOUR inches in diameter is a rare 9and expensive) components.... That treated/pressed paper conveys every little detail and frequency change far better than other comparable materials....That coil, shoving the HEMP-O hemp fiber cone really delivers a complex tonality , and then take a re-pressed HEMP fiber dust cap riding directly on top of the coil former like JBL does, along with the center screened area letting out just the right amount of midrange and high end all work together to give that 3-D tonality........
I know, I know, I AM laying it on really thick, but she IS(IZ) that good......
i'm confident enough that you'll love what you just bought, that I'm offering my "NO-GAMBLE" 15 day return option from delivery date (((less customer damage))) if for ANY REASON you simply don't like what you just bought.....'Just that simple.....

Lots of pictures looking similar to altec, and same as the available ones, except color. Really sounds like the real deal, but still not sure what to do with it, except mimic the old altec enclosure, might take a chance but found some 414c that fel much more safe. And can be shipped, which seems hard for the Emilar. Hmm
