Yesterday I went to visit Silvio, for a long time I wanted to know his new business. 🙂
Prior communication, he told me that he had the Denon DL103 capsule that I was looking for, so this time the opportunity was given.
I spent two hours enjoying "those good old days" and came back feeling confused, happy with the purchase, but shocked by the diversity of brands and models of audio equipment that were there.
SP represents McIntosh in Argentina, and had arranged an interview with a very young couple (perhaps they were not) interested in listening to the extraordinary Mc Intosh XR50 cabinet. So I settled at one end of the room, looked down so as not to see where the sound was coming from, and was in awe of the great sound coming from those little cabinets.
Incredible bass! Although also great soundstage, clean and natural voices, soft highs but with great dispersion.
I was also struck by a VPI turntable, the
Avenger Plus. Must see in person! Shocking design and what size!
Well, look at the photos (they will go in several posts) and guess who is who ...... 😀 , we are in the second wave of the pandemic here ....

Wow! I didnt even know Mac made those "locomotive" sized amps on either side of the TT in the first picture. The only one in the lineup I even recognize is the Mc275...always wanted one of those, but settled for a MAC1500, even before the prices skyrocketed. On everything but the 1500...
It's interesting to see such a collection, while realizing none of it would be of any use to me. If I'd won any piece there in a contest, it'd actually be a liability I couldnt afford to keep. Even the "lowly" 275; I dont own a thing that would need that kind of power.
OK, maybe I could drive the 18" assists with it, but, what a waste of a gorgeous amp like that for a <100Hz job.
Like looking into another world - hard to believe what the eyes are seeing. Thanks for sharing!

Well, it's a great receiver, I can't distinguish, they look like KT88, is that right ?

" Even the "lowly" 275; I dont own a thing that would need that kind of power."
MC 275
Power Output per Channel
75W @ 4, 8 or 16 Ohms
According to the opinions of many people about MC Intosh, their "secret" was the development of the "special" transformers that they use, even in the SS amplifiers.
Many years ago it occurred to me to make a "clone" of Mk 275, and when I studied the circuit and made consultations with very expert local winders, (who are no longer around) they told me that they couldn't do it. However, I had an EI transformer built to order with iron sheets / grain oriented, two taps, etc. But they got there.
Silvio gave me their names, but I forgot them, surely someone from the forum can refresh my memory.
And they must have something exclusive, because a conventional output transformer does not deliver the same power with different loads .......
