Replacement for softboard/speaker protection relays

hi - i just bought and soldered the speaker protection board from Diyaudio. The relay 653-G5LA-14-CF-DC12 from the BOM is obsolete (I do not know why they do not inform the users before purchase). I have informed the store but they said they are not technical and cannot help.

The suggested replacement part from mouser does not fit the pins. Does anyone know the correct replacement part? I need the 24vdc one.

Could you also inform diyaudio and tell ask them to update the part number to help others?

thank you

Philip

I was bored while having my first coffee, so had a quick look... to me those should all fit, but PLEASE double-check the datasheets before ordering. Easiest would be to go with the G5LE instead of the G5LA, make you your get the right "suffixes" for instance SPDT vs. SPDT-NO ... identify the exact spec using the obsolote part numer and transpose to the similar G5LE series

EDIT: I am pretty sure that this type of question arose before in the build thread, I have asked mods to move your post accordingly, you will get more targeted help I would say.

coolnose is correct.

If you work through the thread that's referenced from the store page, you'll find that this query has been covered.

Be careful with your specs.

My Aleph J is built with a +/-24VDC supply and my notes tell me that I used 2 x Omron G5LE1A4CFDC12 for the store speaker protection rig that's running inside it.

Thank you. Should the store itself not be responsible for updating the correct BOM? While i understand that the BOM cannot be accurate up to the minute, it is perfectly possible for the BOM to be maintained and updated on a regular basis to reflect changes in the part number.

hi - i am not sure that these would work. The pins do not look right

Refer attached pic.

You can double check the component data in the shot against the info I provided. They fit and were purchased back at the start of 2019. There are still plenty on offer around the place if you use Octopart as a go-by.

Haven't tested them in anger though and no plan to try.

I've got some xrk/jfhs Soft as a Feather Pillow (SFP) SSR Soft Start Circuit PCBs on order. I'll install that upgrade in due course. Solid state is inherently more reliable than a mechanical relay. But horses for courses and some protection is better than nothing.

Even the most careful amongst us can have a bad day / moment where judgement is not the best (that's why reorganising your audio setup and too many beers / wines is not a good plan). I'd rather have some insurance.

Regarding the currency of the posted BoMs that the store puts up, there's always the chance of parts going out of production. It's virtually inevitable. In some cases it's a change in part number due to additional standards being brought to bear but the basic function doesn't change. I know it can be inconvenient but at least you've got plenty of people here to help you out in that situation. Patience pays off (and that's rich from me, it's not one of the few virtues that I'm blessed with 😎).

All the best with your build.
