Scanspeak Discovery 10F/4424G, 4" Midrange 4 ohm: Madisound Speaker Store
Scanspeak Discovery 10F/8424G 4" Midrange 8 ohm: Madisound Speaker Store
The price is a big turn off. I could have sworn these were around $60 each when I first saw them. Did the neodymium really go up so fast, or was I just dreaming? I sure wish they were cheaper. Why keep using neodymium if it drives cost up so much? On the other hand, the one thing I always want more of with 3" drivers is motor strength.
Cost aside, I thought the results on Krutke's blog looked pretty promising. Looking at Sd, they're really about a 3.5" driver. Has anyone tried these as full-range? Any thoughts on the "coated NRSC fibre glass cone"?

They are indeed great drivers but expensive. The extended and ultra flat Frequency Response paired with the high sensitivity are unbeatable.
I think they work really well as fullranges if you can live with the narrowing dispersion of 3" drivers. You will need woofers for the low end, they are not capable of any reasonable bass.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
I have a set that will be presented in the Round 2 of the "Subjective Blind Comparison..." thread. The measure very flat - one of the smoothest responses I have measured in any driver. They are very well built and sound excellent. I have some initial measurements in the TC9FD Best Bang for the Buck thread http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/full-range/268626-vifa-tc9fd18-08-best-bang-buck-21.html#post4247669. Right now I am waiting for the highly regarded Visaton B80 to arrive for comparison before releasing the sound clips for Round 2.

I tested the 10F/8424G00.
Specs here:

It is a special driver so making a box for it is difficult - trying to find something worthy of it. I am basically going to end up with something similar to the FAST setup it currently got tested in. Looking at a short vented TL for the 10F, and an 8in bass driver in either a sealed or tapered vent TL. XO at about 400Hz, miniDSP and bi-amped of course.

I am looking at it to use with a single 8565 for woofer and either ss9500 or possible one of their older d2010 3/4" tweeters.

Does anyone have a translation of that Japanese Stereo magazine? I'm very intrigued by that driver. I'd love to see it implemented as a small full-range driver in a TABAQ style enclosure.
Does anyone hav a pdf of that magazine article? The link doesn't work. 😕
