Not "channel balance"... not a balance circuit. Just separate gains for Left and Right.
it is possible only by choosing different steps in attenuator, L vs R channel
for SE, that would ask for separate relay attenuator bank per channel ( as it is now, one relay is serving channel per section)
for Bal, there is already separate relay attenuator bank for each channel ( one relay serving one phase per section);
anyhow, software edit is trivial, arranging push button in procedure also, and Logic board would need separate drivers (darlington arrays) for each relay bank ....... also trivial
but, too many projects just waiting, even fully populated pcbs waiting 2 or 3 years just to be energized
in this moment, gilding that lily is very low on priority list
Mighty ZM did open bottomless can of worms when he decided to offer remote control to greedy (lazy old fart) boyz 🤪
P.S. one can always sell either Iron Pre kit in the swap meet easily and sit back in lazy boy while ZM works to ship them new and improved versions 😈

btw. my intention was to avoid any concurrence with Store Iron Pre
Iron Pre is made, by efforts of all involved, especially Patrick IAIMH, to present great(est!) bang for the buck ........ to have all what's needed in one go, while still being relatively simple to assemble
hard to tick all those boxes, so bargain
btw. anyone having slightest idea how many Iron Pre's are singing in the wild?

Don't know how many are singing, but ...btw. anyone having slightest idea how many Iron Pre's are singing in the wild?
~250 of both SE and Bal (500 total) are out in the wild. There were a bunch built before it was ever in the store. That also doesn't include my personal builds / protype builds... probably at least 10 of those.

So... maybe 550???
It is hard to have started at “top of food chain” (Iron Pumpkin)…well, jumping from KISSed DCB1 (which I still use and love).
I think I will be happy to try Balanced Iron Pre with Frank’s Muses added on…I never had a balanced preamp nor have I heard a Muses volume control.
The autoformer volume control will be hard to follow…but I think it’s worth the experience.

but I think it’s worth the experience.
well, building is always fun, but this one is of those circumstances where prediction of outcome is so easy
to start with - Muses is resistive attenuator
no need to write anything else
except, build it for fun, don't judge anything afterwards
That's a good looking Arduino screen you're using ZM, which one is it? I've been looking for a suitable screen for a while without luck.

And they are making some mighty fine music in the caboose too!
What a nice preamp.... ;-)

this one, you can find it in plenty of places

Nice, thanks ZM
and, if you go that route, with Arduino, this line: #include <TFT_HX8357.h>
Thanks for the tip. I've one arriving tomorrow, but it must be 10 years since I've played with an Arduino so I'm a bit rusty.
is the R chanel the same as L ones ?Funny black and white technicals:

ZM’s opinion on least offensive resistive attenuator?…this design points toward relay switched resistors of whatever flavor is preferred
is the R chanel the same as L ones ?
by which criteria...... electronically or physically or ........ ?

ZM’s opinion on least offensive resistive attenuator?…this design points toward relay switched resistors
exactly as that
everything else, including or especially IC based attenuators - they're perfect for designer/production - easy to implement, easy to assemble, small in dimension, and - cheap(er) ....... in short - veeeeery convenient
but, sound wise - relay switched resistor matrix is better, especially if taking in account dynamic behavior (THD in voltage swing domain)
as I wrote many times - my opinion about volume attenuators is based on fact of me having a luck of direct experience with commercially made specimens of highest quality and
there is a correlation between price, most rugged construction (claiming highest number of functional cycles) and sound; well, nothing surprising there

My favorite part of this new design…SPLAT!!!…foiled again!
If I had just waited, my master plan would have come together!…SUPER GENIUS, I like the way that sounds 🤪
