Questions about impulse response

I built a 12 inch 3 way system using SB34NRXL-08, AC 130F1 and Seas 27TAX/BG. The baffle is not stepped. Attached is the impulse response. First of all how bad is it? How/what can I do to improve it?

What goes wrong ? Measurements never say if the loudspeaker sounds good. What are the point of crossover ?
Note I would not use the ac130f1 with wo good woofer and tweeter. Put a more better mid.
About your measurement the first reflection is 3.5ms, distance 1m?

To be more explicit, a more appropriate mid could be a sb15nrx or sb15mfc or sb15nbac or sb15crc for the range 300-3000 . The distortion or these drivers is 10 time less than the old AC130F1. That all for the driver selection. Note you will not heard a difference above 3khz between a 27tac and a tw29txn (l own the 2 tweeters).
Seeing the simulation of AllenB looks good but could be smoother in the treble.
Making 3 ways is hard but very challenging.
Have fun 😊

@Lojzek The tweeter is TAC not TAX. I have fat fingers. I have to go back and look at the woofer data. stay tuned. Standing wave 140 hz? do suspect cabinet or room? Im not sure it is a standing wave but will review. All drivers are mounted on a flat baffle with no z offset.

@jerome69 thank you so much or should I say Merci!! I was considering on of the scan speak drivers if you think that would yield improvements (rather than the tweeter). I have to go back and post some more data that could yield clues. Note All, I am not an advanced designer like you guys but appreciate this hobby and challenge of building. I am always open to product improvement so suggestions are always welcome. I appreciate your ideas and recommendations even if I am not quick to understand them LOL! TY

@jerome69 I remember reading lots of good reviews online about the AC130F1 driver. I just did a bit of digging to refresh my memory as I built these speakers about 4 years ago. Before I change anything I want to make sure I am not changing just for the sake of changing drivers. Do you have any data regarding distortion or any online links? its not that I am doubting you but a pair of SS mids are not cheap not to mention the labor to modify. Im willing to do it if it is a no brainer.

@jerome69 I took a look at the drivers you suggested. I like the SB15CRC

Yes see Zaph 5.5" audio tests, old but useful : 5.5" Driver Comparison
You see a SB15NRX is far better. The AC130F1 has a rising of distortion in the treble. What I want to say the mix of the driver is very important to have an homogeneous result. The AC130F1 is not a bad driver but in my opinion not goes well for this setup, with the 2 monsters around it. I think with other woofers, in a 2 ways speakers with the good tweeter, it works well.

Yes me too, it seems to be the best in term of clarity. See this link here : 5" Intermodulation Distortion Testing (Click on the Comparison Application)
A french test with the 7" and he prefers the CRC : SB17NBAC35-4 versus SB17CRC35-4: the fratricidal duel!
As you say you have a lot of choice of good midrange like the Scanspeak mid but the SB15 series can be a drop in replacement. Just pay attention to the enclosure volume.

Note about the near fiel measurement of the SB34, you should apply baffle step transformation. the sensitivity should drop about 87dB. You should give the width of the box.

@jerome69 I always try to design around a crossover point that corresponds to the baffle step frequency. the baffle is 16 inch, XO point is about 300hz. I do realize that I need to pad down the mid and twt an additional 2 db to get the baffle step needed. I currently do it using dsp. When I goi into the speaker next time I will do it in the XO.

I need to see how close the mechanicals are on the drivers to see if it is truly a drop in.
