I know, there are a lot of discussions about the behringer u-phoria series but:
So is it worth the 80€ to have more i/o and I could use the internal DAC (burr-brown) of the yamaha,
or is the DAC of the 404 good enough to run over analog? The number of i/o's of the 404 is sufficient for my needs.
thanks, I look forward to your opinion
- I need an interface for REW (Room eq) with a phantom mic, and also mono line out and in for the test signal
- also need an good interface to connect my laptop to a yamaha rx v773 for high res audio to enjoy music (better as spotify over a firestick 😢)
404hd | 1820 | |
channels | less | more |
dac | 24bit/192khz | 24bit/96khz |
price | 99€ | 179€ |
digitial output (optical or coax) | no | yes |

UMC stuff would work just fine for your tasks.
I will say, they do exhibit some crosstalk on the I/O. I only really hear it when running sweeps but it's kind of weird to sweep the left channel and still get some signal in the right. Probably not a problem in nearly every use case but something I noticed.
Motu M series is very good, the metering is a god send and I don't think I can use another interface without it. They (M2, M4) have a mix of balanced and unbalanced I/O similar to the UMC.

thanks for the warning of the crosstalk, I didnt hear it befor, but there are some similar posts on the net. So, too bad. The Moto M4 looks nice, but there is no spdif. The next Motu with digital output ist the UltraLite mk5, 719€. Unhappily out of range 😢. Another alternative is the Scarlett 8i6,it has coax. The 2i2 is often used, but dont know the sound quality.
Edit:
maybe I use the Motu M2 or the steinberg ur22c. To connect the yamahe, I could maybe use a ordenary usb c to spdif converter.

I use the UMC1820 on one of my playback systems (DIY active loudspeaker with software DSP). Works just fine and it has lots of I/O. You can always start there and if you do not like it sell it and get a more expensive but better performing interface from MOTU, Focusrite, RME, etc
usb c to spdif converter.
That's probably gonna be easier and cheaper. If you're not recording and don't need 8 pre's the 1820 is kind of silly to buy.

I dont need that much inputs, but I need an interface for measurements (room eq) an the 1820 has a digital out.
Maybe you're right, why not give it a try and if it has crosstalk, I could look for another.I use the UMC1820 on one of my playback systems (DIY active loudspeaker with software DSP). I bought the UMC1820 and that thing makes a good impression. More metal and weight than I thought. One thing this actual series seems to has is a problem with the power knob. Therefor I get it replaced.
The drivers are working on WinArm64.
Connection: archive.org > PC with VoiceMeter (24bit/96khz, ASIO) > (USB) > UMC1820(24bit/96khz, internal clock) > (SPDIF, optical) > Yamaha RX-V773(Bi-Amped, Burr Brown DAC ) > (6mm² copper /6mm² silver) > Quantum 507
The sound is OK. Much more stage width compared to a firestick over HDMI. 🙂
Thanks guys
