Would you pay £3,249 for this USB reclocker?

OK then best is not to buy it so there is no need to go back.

Since I learnt that reviewers/influencers/YouTubers and such qualified and highly trained technicians may keep stuff if their public judgment is positive I don’t even read or look at them. FWIW there recently was an advertisement here of such a reviewer selling such obtained stuff. Shamelessly.

Fraudulent money is spent on fraudulent products to make us jealous. Ain't You? Cuz it feels like you are 🙂 I surely am.
And , oh please Lord make me stupid wealthy and I will promise I will splurge like crazy on most useless things if you promise that I can afford to do it till my last breath 😉
Jean -Paul - which AKM Dac? I realized that among my collection of useless things I'm definitely missing AKM Dac .

I feel I need to clarify that I wasn't responding to Jean Paul . People buy products to hang a plate " eat your hart" on them to make us all envious and jealous and they are succeeding . At least in my case so something has to be done but what it would be ? Another French revolution?

I would re clock your USB for free, and for 3,249 would wash your dog.

A gem inside this Youtube: at about 11 or 12 minutes he talks about why he heard an improvement without the Innuos - which wasn't really there.
Fascinating insight in sighted listening test perceptions.
His explanation for the subjective "improvements" is something I have experienced myself, but only if I accidentally blinded myself! (mistaking what is actually playing) Worth posting a direct time link:

If you work in IT, you know such a device is useless, USB works or not, and if the package is changed along the way the protocol will give an error. The only thing that could give issues is when the device also is powered on the USB port and does not have good power filtering so it gives noise on the analog parts of the design. But the USB data itself won't be affected.

Yes audiophiles very much tend to underestimate how flawed our subjective listening can be. In the case of this product it has made a fool of the subjective wizzkid reviewer Darko.

I agree . Soon enough AI and robots will be listening first and after their approval warm bloodied monkeys will be allowed to express their sheepish comments on underground blogs. Somehow I have impression that it is already the case. After a hard week of daily dose of Seagram V.O for $3.99 I said fock it and bought a flask of Jameson for $12.99 yesterday. Say what you want about subjective /objective I aint playing the game and prefer to be wrong all day long as long as it's Jameson

I wouldn't buy that reclocker but I also won't trust that ASR guy. He has his business model which is shitting on everything that costs more than a Topping product and thereby making people feel good about themselves because they are not "gullible fools easily tricked and their pockets emptied". It is just a version of people needing to feel good about a product with a fancy story attached to it.

I wouldn't buy the reclocker either. That said, I know that USB bus garbage can inject noise into a DAC's USB subsystem that radiates around galvanic isolators (assuming there are any to begin with), effectively bypassing them. Most commercial DACs don't even have any internal USB galvanic isolation and or shielding, etc. One of the worst offenders I have personally seen for injecting RFI into the USB bus is Topping HS01, which is supposed to be a USB isolator of all things. Depending on how it was powered (its supposed to be supplied with external 5v power, but it has some internal SMPS cheat circuit that works at reduced voltage if no external 5v is supplied), it can affect dac sound quite significantly.

Therefore, for commercial dacs where there is no option to isolate at the I2S bus level, I wouldn't be surprised if there are some cases where USB bus isolation could help.

Regarding the very high price of the unit being criticized here, given that its a high end and thus probably very low production volume unit, the retail markup is probably at least 6x the incremental manufacturing cost for one finished and boxed up unit. If there is actually enough stuff in it that it might cost £500 to make, then maybe the price isn't totally out bounds. Of the sales price the dealer probably gets maybe 30%, regional distributor 10%, and 60% to the manufacturer. If its only sold direct from the manufacturer then that would be another matter.

I don't agree at all. ASR will give kudo's when they are earned. If aything he sometimes is too nice not giving a product a negative even when it is so-so. He is never shitting on anything because of cost but if you caught him on it, please show us.
We all know that listening tests are too subjective and personal to be of value to others, and ASR is one of the very few straight forward outfits that show where the beef is (or not).
