And what did we buy today?

Messed up a 2 tb SSD for a prototype Mac M4 dock that turned out to be unstable with this particular SN770 M2 SSD. Heatsinks were glued to the SSD and fitted exactly with a thin heat conducting pad... only in this dock 🙂.

So I bought a B choice Icy Box IB-1917M-C32 20 gbps casing and today made ... Audio backup desktop SSD "Irmgard".

Drills and files, no CNC. All manual. The excellent heat transfer capabilities of the quite thick aluminum casing stay largely unused but such is life. Irmgard is quite fast, making a backup is not a nuisance anymore.

Short term plan is to measure them with a few different compression drivers. Then choose woofers and whip up some crossovers. Probably some new boxes too. Much of that depends on the measurements. Right now they are sitting on top of my Vortex 15 coaxial cabinets just looking cool.

My Linn got delivered today, with the Keel and Ekos 2 tonearm... the sound is very different from the previous pre-Circus and Ittok tonearm. At first it sounded muffled, but then I realized that the midrange is now linear, with much less "sugar", the bass and treble are extended, the dynamics are greatly increased and the noise floor has dropped evern further. The detail is really, truly good. You can hear deep into the mix.

With a nice LP, you don't hear the groove noise, even when the volume is set pretty loud.

While I was listening, Amazon delivered the WiiM Ultra.

Still in the box.... LPs playing. Just taking a break.

"Pendejo" is American here in SoCal...

Ole!

It is indeed cast as two pieces just like the original Altec H808. Each one weighs 12.53 pounds without the compression driver.

You can find much more info by searching the web for Lycan3r A808. It was done by the same gentleman responsible for the horns on the Klipsch + Ojas kO-R1.

Nice horn!

Today I bought a budget CPU cooler (Thermalright Assassin X 120R) for my new workstation build. Reviews indicate that it is the best bang for the buck for low-mid TDP CPUs, and at ¥2300, I figure I couldn’t go wrong. Benchmarks show it performing within a couple of degrees Celsius of the Noctua NH-D15, which goes for ¥15900 here in Japan. I had the Noctua in my perevious workstation in Canada, and I recall it being a real b***h to fit into my case. It certainly worked well, though.
