I am trying to decide between 2 speakers from Troels. To me as a novice who never built a speaker before, they seem very similar and it is common knowledge that the man himself does not answer any speaker choice questions.
The 2 speakers in question are the following two:

Both of them are marketed by Troels as alternatives to the Faital 3WC-12 with deeper bass, and that is exactly what I am looking for.
But then, I have no clue based on what criteria I should make my final choice.
To me as a noob the specs seem very similar. But then I may be missing some critical difference on which I could base my decision maybe?

Your dilemma is similar to many who build Troels' kits - namely which one. For me, I gave a lot of credence to those that built the kits I was interested in from his builders response page. Unfortunately, there is only one builder of the Faital 12-430.

If you go to http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/speakertalk.htm and find the entry for 27th August 2022 you will find in the last bit of it he is comparing 3 similar, but internally very different, speakers.
I have been in your situation two times now. The last time was in the fall and i ended up asking him if he had any for sale. He did and im now the proud owner of the original Ekta-TL
I guess my point is to stop torturing yourself. Even Troels cant tell what speaker he likes better in the long run. Pick one and be happy.

You need to check your contraints.
Firt check the final price depending of the tweeter you want for the faital. It can just answer your question.
Maybe look at The fusion (normal) might be cheeper but same bass driver than fusion22.

- The fusion 22 will go significantly deeper without sub.
- The faital might be sweeter (compared to verry few comment I have reed)
Maybe look at The fusion (normal) might be cheeper but same bass driver than fusion22.

Sorry for reacting only now to your replies. Well, at least it is kinda comforting to read that other have been in my situation as well. 😛
Buying a finished spekaer is not an option, since I want to build one because I want to build one.
Meanwhile, I came to the decision that in case of doubt I will probably opt for the next big thing, which would be the Faital-3WC-15. I am convinced that I will certainly not have to worry about any lack of bass with the 15" driver. Luckily, the difference in price does not seem too big compared to Fusion-22 and Faital 12-430.
Only need to convince my wife now... 🙄🙄

@Faye we'll see you back here in a couple of days once your ears have stopped ringing asking which of the small stand mount designs by Troels you should build and still have some money for a small sub to hide away ;-)
That's a seriously sized speaker. Before deciding on my OSMCs, I built some cardboard mockups to see how their size would work in our space. This is an inexpensive exercise before you sink months of work and love (and cash) into building something of this size.
@ianpengelly lol....I will make sure to build some mockups from cardboard for my wife to actually see what I'm talking about. 😗

Definitely the size of the cabinet... I am hopefully your wife is more accepting of such a box than mine! :-D
@ianpengelly It's a process. But I told her that I need to build this in order to save my soul. I am optimistic that she accepts....hopefully... 🙄
