I’ve done this with many boxes.
Bracing, Puzzlwkiat (modPodge), better wiring, damp baskets.
This could also benefit fom rearranging the drivers on the baffle and rework the XO. Besidesbthe 2 L-Pads, ibet there are only 2 capacitors.

thx I'll check that outThere could be also buyers on the net looking for those drivers.
The phenolic ring tweeter or the dome mid.
You can buy dayton classic 12" woofers for $30?Correct a reform kit around 30 dollars could just buy Dayton Classics.
Which will outperform what is in there anyways.
When you say re-do do you mean like rip out the baffle and replace it with a new piece of wood?I would redo the baffle for a vertical arrangement with tighter center to center
I measured them and they're in spec but I know some people think that specific brands or types sound better and they're cheap anyway, right?A simple way to get it going would be replace the old electrolytic bipolar caps
with new bipolar caps.
Yeah it was there just for a few mins to see if there was any potential. The duct tape surrounds dont fit most bills, I think a refoam is needed before they are damaged.
😉Of course wont deny using the same patent for a few speakers in my early years.
Im glad you trade marketed the technique. LOL love it looks like fun.
To answer the question, "is it worth doing any sort of upgrade or changes to these like putting in actual crossovers or installing damping material etc?"
No. These speakers are way out of date and are P-40's in an age of F-22's. The original speakers will make sound but it won't be good. If the boxes are in good shape (no scratches or veneer delaminating) you may want to think about turning them into Econowaves or another upgrade system. I think you are being very realistic when you say you are polishing a turd. It all comes down to how much you want to spend.

I am well aware but I can't afford F-22s either although I did grab a couple of decent Advent 4002s yesterday so I these turds are going on the back burner until I am bored.No. These speakers are way out of date and are P-40's in an age of F-22's.

Case closed!
or installing damping material
One more.
Arthur says they will never be good. But will someone enjoy them?
And what you learn seeing what you can do with these will be invaluable even if you end up just turning everything into parts.

I hope you included new dust caps in the order. It's more work, but installing shims in the pole gap has several advantages in lining up the foams to the cone. For one, the friction helps with positioning the spider at midpoint while the glue sets, keeping excursion and linearity closer to original.Well I'll be updating this thread when I do make some changes, I already ordered the refoams and stuff so that will get done at least. The bracing seems easy enough. When I say back burner I mean a couple weeks not years 😉
Have fun with it.
Well the surrounds showed up yesterday and they were rubber which I am not sure if I was expecting but I will try them anyway. Just waiting on the glue now which I ordered seperately for some reason. I also just put some current into the speaker to center it for jobs I'm not too worried about or if the gap between the coil and magnet is big enough. These fit both of those categories. Again, just trying to do this as cheaply as possible because of what they are...I hope you included new dust caps in the order. Managed to install the surrounds and honestly these don't sound terrible, very boomy so yeah I suppose the support and dampening will tighten up that bass quite a bit. Is there a good way to A/B the process or should I just make a mod to one speaker and compare the two in mono or something?
I would modify one enclosure and compare the result with the unmodified one in the way you suggest.
