Hi,
I have an option to buy a pair of secondhand Hawthorne Sterling Silver Iris speakers. To me, the treble looks very rolled off and I read mixed reviews on the web.
Should I proceed with the purchase or will I be disappointed?
I've often considered OB's but the cost including shipping to the bottom of the world is large so this pair of SSI's is my only practial option to owning OB's.
Thanks for any comments

That's something you'd definitely want to hear in your room before spending a dime. Just sayin'. 😉Should I proceed with the purchase or will I be disappointed?

Thanks Jeff and Dave.
These are the stirling version of the duets. I'm not sure that changes anything....

It's sounds like I'm best to leave them. Thanks for the feedback and have a great Christmas!

They have better versions of both drivers. What proved necessary to make either version sound better was opening up the back of the compression driver to make it a full range dipole. You had to saw the back off of the Silver Iris driver, while you could remove some screws on the Sterling Sliver Iris (a Radian compression driver). this made them much more natural sounding. Worth buying? You have to have room for the open baffles, perhaps 3 feet from the back wall, and a willingness to fiddle. More modern drivers (MarkAudio, SB Acoustics) are better for the money probably.
