Just about done with a pair of Scott’s Jaguars with Mark Audio A10.2 drivers. They’re still in my garage/shop; thus, the background. The supra-baffle is walnut and wenge. I’m enjoying them as I’m typing this. No doubt, they’ll get a lot more use. Great for many types of music, but acoustic guitar sounds really great. Female voices are great too: Karen Carpenter sounds angelic. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot is playing right now and sounds darn good, too.
I was looking for something other than a typical box, so these fit the bill. I’ve done a pair of CHR-70 Mar-Ken’s and these were a simpler build. I’ve got the parts and plans for the A12PW/A7P, so those are next.
I really like the “challenge “ of something different. I did a pair of Frugalhorns with A7s, so I might try a Frugalhorn Lites down the road.
Any suggestions on what type of amp works best with the A10s? I’m using an old Onkyo now, but I’d like to see if I hear any difference with other amps. Also, are these best away from a wall?

Best IME for any 'FR' driver is a variable output impedance SET tube amp or at least class A/B with a least 10 W class A, 10^(20 db/10) = 100 W class B and depending on speaker efficiency and/or some CDs with up to +30 dB dynamic headroom = up to 1 kW.

Looks like an amp from the 80's. Model number?I’m using an old Onkyo now
For SS, Pass First Watt sound great, but not tons of power.

It's a TX-866. I picked it up at our local landfill electronics reuse room, free.
I have several old school 70s silver face amps/receivers, a Jolida SJ502, an AudioSector LM3875 amp. a HiFi DIY T3S, and a handful of the cheap TPA3116 amps. Any of those work better than the others?
Thanks!

I might be tempted to try the LM3875 chip amp first. If the Jolida is stock, it won't be hard to beat, sadly.

Hafta agree with Jeff. While I can still grumble about the circumstances of the disappearance of my JD302, it did serve as a notable waypoint on my audio journey. If considering modding it, be wary of the very flimsy PCB traces.
As regards “chip amps” I’ve been enjoying my Neurochrome Modulus 286 for what feels like the best part of a decade, and would recommend any of this series of Tom’s unreservedly.

I have been using LM3875 amp with my Jaguars and have been loving the set-up. These speakers really tickle my audio senses. With that in mind, I decided to try yet another build using some MA drivers. The A12PW and A7P (enabled) combination in Dave's trapezoid cabinet is my newest project. I am well beyond pleased with the sound. The build was a bit complicated and if mistakes lead to learning, I must be a genius!? The cabinets are functional, but I need to try again, using what I learned from the initial build. Not being a scientifically minded guy, I can't objectively describe what I like about the speakers, but I REALLY, REALLY love listening to both sets. I've built several speakers with MA drivers, but these two builds are my favorites.
As you can probably tell, My listening area in this pic is my garage/shop/man cave. I will eventually bring them in the house, but I can listen to them at all hours at a decent volume level without infringing on my wife's TV time. She gladly listens with me, but...
The blue tape is there to reduce/eliminate air leaks. Like I said, I need to use the lessons from the maiden build and do a much more aesthetically pleasing build. The small speakers are a pair of TABAQs for which I haven't yet found a new home.

That 3M blue painters tape certainly vibes nicely with the MA paper cones; and tell us a story about the polka dots.😉
If i would have had black tape, I would have used it. As it stands, it was either blue masking tape or grey duct tape. Not sure about the polka dots. The bottom line is that they sound great!
