Dayton DA135-8 xMax

Not small for the cost. Select all the 5-1/4 inch woofers at Parts Express and sort from low to high price. The low cost ones have xmax 2 to 4mm. If you pay more, you get better performance.

I've used the 7 inch version. The DA series are good for the money but have fairly low sensitivity and require a decent sized box.

Have not tried the driver, but 3mm Xmax is about average for a 5.5" midwoofer with smooth response to 1kHz and an Fs of 56.5Hz.

A sealed pair could do around around 95dB at 1 meter at Fs, fairly loud for near-field use.
Not going to get much in the bottom octaves from small drivers, if you don't plan to use subwoofers probably should look for larger drivers with more Xmax.

For the same price , try the

SB Acoustics SB13PFCR25

I sometimes forget how different markets can be. The DA135-8 is on sale at Parts Express in the USA right now and is almost exactly half of the price of the SB13PFCR25 at Madisound. I checked them at SoundImports in Europe and they are basically the same price. I've heard that Dayton Audio is almost the same price as SB Acoustics in Australia too. For budget drivers, I think those of us in the US are a little spoiled with just how inexpensive Dayton Audio drivers are here.
