We already know the best 2-way is a 3-way, the best 3-way is a 4-way, best 4-way is a 5-way, but will we reach 6-ways soon on this thread? Is there a such thing as overkill? Can you feel 1hz bass?
Ho I think I the best way is one way-
A near massles perfect sphere floating in space capable of light speed fluctuations.
Until this science fiction will come real I will keep adding drivers... but I still have some way to go... Check out Lawrence Dickie new flagship 😀
Btw this sphere idea does sometimes keep me awake at night, but this conundrum is just beyond me

Hi Noam
I wonder whether that 18N862 will be sufficient in a CB now hat you are used to it in a reflex box. Maybe you will have to double-up.
Its TSPs allow deep and loud bass with low distortions in a still reasonably sized reflex box. Maybe it's a waste to use it in CB and you should go for two or more cheaper 18"ers per side in CB.
I am definitely wondering what your experiencces will be.

Charles

Thank you for your reply. My speakers are currently on wheels, built out of 29mm ply, I don't have subs.I use wood biscuits and ordinary wood glue.
For those who want to have fast cure time one can use Allcon 10 (Beka).
It is brutal glue comes in tubes like silicon and will cure in 10min. It I stronger then wood glue and will fill gaps if you didn't quit got a perfect cut (up to 1mm gaps- no problem).
Thinking about a base for subs... are you using any granite slabs? Or something similar? The subs are going to be placed on floating wood floor so I want to decouple them as best I can
Also the tips for glue is nice, yet I have just enough of the 15 minutes time of regular wood glue, lugging around the 29mm ply and fiddling to get everything right is already stressfull enough without having to worry about fast curing!!
Thank you Charles for writing.Hi Noam

I have followed a subwoofer build thread, a guy tried the 18N862 in both reflex and closed cabinet. The fellow has concluded that sealed sound better so I will follow his work and will try the same.
155Liter bassreflex was fun but it has also exited some room modes that I couldn't tame using dsp.
I have also concluded that Göbel divin subwoofers also uses about 110LITER, if indeed it is the bms 18n862 they are using.
I will be finnished with the build in two days, so I will report on the progress.
I’ve had a similar idea. I’ve realized it has to be able to expand infinitely to work perfectly, as well as being massless. Just shout when you finish that one 😉Btw this sphere idea does sometimes keep me awake at night, but this conundrum is just beyond me
Hypex fa501 on the 12N630 boosting it the necessary 7db so it can keep up with the high sensitivity 10inch midrange. You have a Hypex amplifier module for the sub, right? That should be able to make it dance 😀.
And Hypex fa501 on the 18N862 subs... so that will be fun to make all of that to work together.
But I tried and will continue to try to listen to single driver systems like Voxativ. Haven't fallen in love for it just yet... and the price of those drivers- costing like my whole system combined!! What the f..... ck ...... people will really buy everything 🙄
I pretty much use a single driver (type) system 😀. But I give it all the support I can from EQ, FIR and what not.
So some progress was done with the mighty subwoofers.
My wife was out so I could sneak this busters to the top floor and glue everything there, glad I did, Those cabinets weight about 110kg and I again hurt my back in the process.
So, 47mm plywood birch. Bitumen 3mm thick, sheep wool, (2)18N862 and (2) Hypex FA501 makes this project- cabinets sealed 125Liter.
For the feet I took 3 pieces of Door stoppers the one can find in every baumarkt.

Always nice to see professional woodworking from the inside and not these instagram tricks which always make you feel like an incompetent newbie.
Black screws would look nicer though 🙂

Perfect integration but do corner-loaded subs work? my concern is that you will need to castrate them in the dsp to prevent booming sound, to an extent that they no more sound like 18” drivers.
Thank you 🙏🏼Perfect integration but do corner-loaded subs work?
Yes this is also my concern.
Yesterday I started to play with them and Jesus christ they can move air, too much of it!
I think I need much more hours of listening and tweaking... nevertheless I am very happy with the cabinets, they just not vibrate, not on front nor on the sides.
What was also very interesting is that they give lots of depth to the soundstage, and amazing how much Bass quality will change the midrange and treble.
That would deny usability of any equalization process. All vinyl records are "castrated" to fit. And the riaa equalizer "de-castrates" them. Is the result usable? I would think so!you will need to castrate them in the dsp to prevent booming sound, to an extent that they no more sound like 18” drivers.
What castrates them to some extent is the use in a closed box compared to reflex loading. But together with the corner loading his may give a result that doesn't need a lot of tweaking to sound right in the end.Perfect integration but do corner-loaded subs work? my concern is that you will need to castrate them in the dsp to prevent booming sound, to an extent that they no more sound like 18” drivers.

Yeah, I like that veneer pattern with the side panel blocking some of it off. That'll look sweet.
Hi Noam
Again very nice craftmanship !
I wonder how you will like the 12n630 after being spoilt by the 18n862.
Talking of the latter: Do you still use those in the closed corner-loaded boxes ?
