I‘d like to scratch my own itch and do something OB/dipole…….there‘s nearly 8 ft of space behind there with a stairwell…….an OB would really make for an incredible soundstage…….but I’d need the OB to play down 60hz or so to blend with the subs. How am I gonna do that OB limited to 5 inch woofers?
5" woofers would struggle to reach 60Hz even used sealed in most applications let alone OB!
You should use a line array of small sealed woofers, most likely frequency shaded, with a tweeter in the center. Don't think any open baffle array, given your space constraints, would give you enough output at 60Hz for HT use.
The first thing to make the task a LOT easier is to rise the crossover frequency of the subs. They are already close by so an audible location of them will still be impossible. 80-100 Hz is no mistake here but let's assume 80 Hz. Is the available depth exactly 4" or is it a tad more?
The Tang Band W46-1316N is a miniature oval subwoofer which is just 159,5mm long and 102,7mm wide, the depth is 77,8mm.
The Tang Band W1-2025SA is a miniature wideband driver with a diameter of 40mm and a depth of just 15,35mm.
So if a few mm more are available, you could mount a few mini subs on an L-frame and hang the mini wideband drivers in a line before them. If that's too tight, the mini subs could be mounted with a slated/angled baffle and the mini WB could still be hang in front of them.
E: They might even fit side by side on the available width, if you fit them perfectly. At a xo of 200-300 Hz interference won't be a big issue.

Good lord, is someone putting that in their house? I would change my mind also.
Have you looked at the original full size heils may not fit but close just need a woofer under. Could work well on top once you get the bottoms solved.

Honestly, I'd be tempted to put a co-ax or mid/tweeter in the top outer corners of the subwoofer enclosures. The height and width aren't that different than what the towers had anyway.
The line source sounds interesting, but it's also a chance for a lot of stuff to go wrong if you haven't done that exact thing previously. For my own project I might try that, but not for a client with a deadline.

The ESS AMTs don't fit in both dimensions. And there isn't enough space to put a woofer there either, one that can match the AMTs half-way at least. And I doubt the TV lift will be able to lift 6 of the AMT units either (not a LA with just one).

Did you swap the picture with a blurred one because someone said it would be ugly?!
I'd consider ending up with something close to the Steinway/Lyngdorf sound bar. Just add mids and tweets to the side units, add enough delay so that it fires upwards instead of straight ahead. A pair of 3 way plate amps such as the Hypex FA123 would do most all of what you need.

Yeah and that’s a no go….i pitched a lot of ideas but in the end, the towers are going away and everything must be contained in the console footprint and the bottom of the screen is the max height……there’s a live edge slab of Walnut in. Y shop now ready to be shaped for the top. We’re doing a brush slot for the screen when it lifts up.
I like Matt’s idea of the coax’s built into the sun box corners honestly…..at least it’s the least costly option…..I can route the holes and pass the internal dividers through the woofer hole and secure from the outside….its all getting covered anyways……the like the mid century look hence the vintage wheat grille. Distance from the Coax’s center to center would be roughly 60” and with the UniQ‘s wide dispersion ( +/-60 degrees) it would all work out……not my favorite solution for music though……the OB would be my first pick on that front.
These folks do like to listen A LOT though……I’ll see how they feel about the compromise.

He wanted a dipole/OB. And I'm not sure the CBT would work, it usually needs the floor for the reflect image and 4" depth is likely not enough for a CBT.
I like the idea of a CBT standing beside that monolythic block instead of the old speakers, that could be an interesting design aspect with benefits regarding the acoustics as well as the design.
