Turntable pitch slider: increases speed up or down?

So I have an older Omnitronics 2220 turntable. It’s a typical direct drive ‘DJ’ turntable.
However at some point since I have owned it, the pitch slider has ‘broken’. The TT still plays at the correct speed at 0, but if I move the slider up or down…. The speed increases (instead of increasing one way and slowing down the other).
I’ve had a look inside and can’t see anything obviously wrong.
There is some information on the turntable here, but not sure it helps me much.
Anyone able to suggest anything?! Thanks!

Sorry for the delay (had a major operation that stopped me lifting anything heavy). This is the reverse of circuit board connected to the slider not a lot to see though potentially some damage near the end of the paintbrush handle (see pic).
I also used the rpm app. The device is running a little fast (33.7), if I turn the slider speed ‘up’ it reaches 66rpm. However turning ‘down’ reaches 85rpm!

On the underside of the deck it gets more confusing, there are some ‘adjustment holes’ labelled as follows: ‘33’ and another ‘45’ (there is nothing underneath these!). Then there is ‘pitch adjust’ (on the pitch slider board), which is above the very small hole at the top of the slider circuit board (you’d need an very small screwdriver to fit in there!
Then ‘D.D adjust’ that’s a larger controller on the main controller board (with the motor), that would what I’d expect to see.
The user instructions solely discuss the pitch adjust though!
