Hello! I am looking to build some bookshelf speakers, and I'm hoping for some recommendations. I have read through some threads on a similar topic, but most discussions here seem to be at least 5 years old. I will be high passing whatever I end up with to play along with a couple of 8" subs, so I don't really need anything with deep bass. For this reason, I'm thinking something sealed might be ideal for me. Right now, I am considering the late Jeff Bagby's Kairos design, but unfortunately the plans for this speaker don't seem to be available at the moment due to the closure of Meniscus. Even if not for this, I would still be interested in looking at other options. Specifically, I am looking for a fairly high end bookshelf speaker with a width not exceeding 10" (and preferably not exceeding 9") that I can integrate with a pair of 8" subs at ~50-80Hz. Does anyone have any recommendations? Maybe something with pro drivers would be suitable? (Although in that case I might have to go ported given my size requirements)
Thanks!
Thanks!

I actually have a pair of those WG's attached to a different set of tweeters. I totally forgot Heismann speakers existed. Thanks! I'll look into this oneMake sure the waveguide is available!
Whell, you could build Kalasan or Ara...
They use the sime drivers (not shure about impedance of driver used) as Kairos.
Kalasan, latest crossover is post #700

I have build ARA version with side firing subwoofer, later transfer to full active with berilium tweeter and textreme midbass...
Here is a short video (I know that you can't judge the sound by it, but...just to get idea...they do sound nice...this is the version with hypex PSC2.400 plate amp)

I saw and considered these. I think the Kairos is probably better suited for my application, if only the plans were available!Whell, you could build Kalasan or Ara...

Meniscus has a "plans waiting list" which I signed up for. It seems to me that they prefer only to be emailed about previous orders for the time being

This one sounds pretty good, and it does not use expensive esoteric drivers. It has an unusual shape that may not appeal to everyone.

Very interesting speaker. Should the tweeter be at around eye level when listening? If so they're way too tall for me. Really cool design though. I actually quite like the lookThis one sounds pretty good, and it does not use expensive esoteric drivers. It has an unusual shape that may not appeal to everyone.
Yes, the design axis is the tweeter. If you eyes/ears are level with the bottom of the tweeter flange, you are good.... but lower than that, you will start to hear a suck-out at 2k. The only correction would be to tilt them down slightly. It might look a bit awkward.
That's what I figured from looking at the polar maps. I need something with a vertical sweet spot of 8-12" from the base of the speaker. Should have mentioned that in original post.. oopsYes, the design axis is the tweeter. Thanks for the suggestion though. I am happy about learning of the "Kimmosto Rule" through your thread
The Ergo IX, this uses the Scanspeak 15W8530k01 and Morel CAT378 drivers. There are plans for a near wall crossover and a far wall one.

Or if you can tolerate a 20l Box volume then the Zaph ZRT has plans for a speaker with the Scanspeak 18W8531 and D3004/66000 aircirc tweeter. Again there are plans for a crossover with near and far wall placement.

The design I mentioned in post #8: It would be possible to make that speaker shorter by 5.75". The woofer and tweeter would both be moved down by 5.75". The width would not change, and the geometry of the baffle around the tweeter would not change, so there would be no change to the crossover.
The tweeter would be 12" high, compared to 17.75" high in the original.
To keep the volume the same, the depth would increase. The new dimensions would be 15" High x 7" Wide x 12.25" Deep.
