I was setting gains on my class d Soundigital 1200.4 amplifier yesterday and noticed this slight squiggly pattern at the top of the sound wave (1000hz 0db). I know a sound wave squares off when clipping but is this considered the same thing? I also attached a photo of the wave before increasing gains and it looks a lot smoother.

I think so - its not flat topped, but that might be due to the circuit characteristics, for instance bootstrapping. What happens as the level is increased a bit more?
That usually means a non-linear device (diode) was used "around" the gain device / OPAmp... Schematics?
The top would level out (clip) and I could hear the test tone coming through.
