B&W 802 Matrix S2 restoration

I did these up and sent the Crossovers to Wilmslow Audio to refurbish the crossovers as they felt necessary using Mundorf for the larger and Jantzen small capacitor values.
I don't trust my soldering skills unfortunately.
Someone had butchered the main bolts with a screwdriver so I restored them and made my own tool for turning them. And B&W had left the pressing marks in them which made them look a bit...... erm, not great so I flattened them properly before respraying
In addition I didn't particularly like speaker cloth on the cabinet tops so I used some special paint from the Plastikote range.

Thanks. Thanks very much.
I wish I'd learned electronics and soldering.
The expertise of some of the guys on here is really very impressive to me.
I've bought a book about troubleshooting CD players, so maybe I'll start there, because I have a collection of old CD players, all working fine.
I just had a Meridian 508.20, my main player refurbished.
Total re-cap, new lasers, new transformer and full service. With the initial cost of the player maybe around a year ago, the player has cost me probably around £1100. It's a lovely sounding player though.
Anyway, all the best Galu.
Incidentally, I notice your profile picture.
I like it. My surname is a Scottish Clan from Motherwell. We have our own Tartan, Heraldic Crest and a family history that traces back over a thousand years to this little Island we call home. 🖐🏻

Thanks very much, they're a great speaker. Apparently the B&W 802 Matrix is one of the most sought after classic speakers in America. They sell straight away when they come up there.
I'd say the Series 2, is the best of the original Matrix series. They cut costs with the 3 and reduced the quality of some details of the speakers.
They do sound fantastic. Very fast and controlled bass drivers. Extremely balanced in sound, but they do benefit from stands.
The guy who I bought them off had bought them in Australia while working in New Zealand some years ago. We stayed in touch and became friends even though he lives about 400 miles away up near Edinburgh and I live in West Wales. That was quite a drive to collect them in one day!
I realised, that these are a bit on the large side for my listening room and my 805 Matrix are more suited.
He was really gutted that he'd let them go so I've offered them back to him. He's delighted because he said he actually felt traumatised by the loss of these speakers and his Hi-Fi had lost its charm for him because of this.
I feel the same about my 805 Matrix speakers, I can't part with them, they're the best sounding speaker I've heard and I went through a lot of pairs including modern so called top notch speakers, all be it made in bloody you know where.
I put mucho effort into making stand tops for my 805s

I'm using a Marantz Model 30. Integrated.
100 WPC @ 8 Ohm
200 WPC @ 4 Ohm
Damping Factor 500
Frequency Response 5 Hz - 50 KHz
Signal to Noise ratio 107 DB
Total Harmonic Distortion 0.005%
I've only used integrated amps so far but, this is definitely the best sounding amp I've used. By a long shot.

I'm afraid not.
Your work looks awesome!!
I'm afraid making anything like that for me would seem like climbing a mountain that's much too high.
I've no experience with electronics at all apart from replacing burned out wires on car a when the alternator output shorted on a Montego years ago. It burned all the wires to the main ECU out. That was a chocolate block job with about 20 wires or so 😄.
To re-cap the 802 crossovers, I sent them away as I wouldn't even know where to start.
I can do things like cabinet restoration, grill cloths etc, but electronics isn't something I've learned yet.
I do have a vague desire to learn though.
I picked up a book on CD player troubleshooting and repair. Could that be a good place to start.🤔

Thank you very much, will do. And let me say, you appear to be very talented, I'm extremely impressed by the amplifier you're making.
Best of luck with the build and perhaps you'll keep us posted too, with your progress.

Thanks. I do feel somewhat silly having realised now, by looking a little more carefully at this forum that your monoblocks are up and running.
It's an unfortunate effect of being new to forums, (I'm a fully confirmed hermit 'sociophobe' and diagnosed 'autist' with no Facebook, Twitter, or any other "Social Media" accounts.)
I've been doing in depth analysis of historical international affairs and geopolitics. This takes up hours of my time, reading many very in depth academic tomes. I have a BA Hons in Philosophy from the University of Wales completed at aged 48, 12 years ago. Therefore, whilst I may be idiotic at times, I don't consider myself an idiot.😀)
Classical music CDs and my Hi-Fi is my other interest. Apart from the very rare bouts of listening to some 70s Rock and Pop and Primus, I've moved completely on to classical in the last couple of years. (I learned Piano and Music Theory from aged 8, Bassoon and Orchestra training from 10, and sung in two Choirs from aged 8 so really I've gone back to Classical as my main listening)
How do your Zeus Monoblocks sound? Did you knock up your own pre-amps too? What are your source components and speakers? Your Monoblocks look terrific.
