Experiences with Sica drivers?

Hi,

While looking for a 10" or 12" driver, I stumbled upon Sica drivers.

They can be had for very decent prices in a UK shop (hotrox) and look very well built with good specs.......but nobody seems to be using them which makes me suspicious right off the bat. no reviews, builds, ... It comes from the Jensen factory.

I was thinking about using 2 12" woofers, only 80GBP (about 100eur) each, in parallel so it' a 4Ohm load and active DSP with my minidsp 2x4HD. It's for a home application, crossed over at 800Hz to a CD.

https://en.toutlehautparleur.com/media/catalog/product/datasheet/sica/Z007831.pdf

It looks decently flat until 1.5 Khz in a ported enclosure of only 45L which would be very convenient, would cross them over at 800Hz to a CD with a 2nd or 3rd order.

Anybody any opinions on these? Would they best an equally cheap SB Audience 12MW200 or other middbass drivers?

Thanks!

I'm no expert either, so that makes 2 of us 🙂

SB Audience is the PA line of SB Acoustics, looking at the SB Acoustics drivers there's not really anything at 12" and the frequency sweeps don't look so much better compared to the SB Audience line. If anything, the 'nero' drivers look better but they are quite expensive for the levels I will only use them at. So I'm fine with a 150-200W high efficiency driver. I have already a SB Audience 12MW200, it's a fine woofer but wondering more about the Sica (for which I find nothing on the web)

I used several different Sica models in different applications with great results, quality of the drivers is absolutely first rate.
Two 12' woofers are overkill for home use, I would suggest one 15 woofer 15 L 2,5 SL. It is less expensive (109 GBP instead of 2*80=160 GBP) and needs smaller cabinet than two 12". Also, 12" driver (12 BS 2,5 PL) has nasty peak at 2 kHz (it is a real bass-guitar driver!), while 15 L 2,5 SL has very smooth response - ideal for home hi-fi use.

Sica is a well known loudspeaker manufacturer. The chassis are and do what they claim. Sica is a large Italian OEM supplier and has not yet raised it's prices for the DIYS market to the moon, like most other brands. For your money you get excellent value. They are often used for high quality, low cost DIYS projects. The chassis aviable are not that clearly separated into specific lines, like you find it with the competition, you have to know what you pick from the objective data sheets. I'm quite sure they will get more expensive in the future.
Most people do not even imagine how low OEM prices are, so there is quite some margin for a dealer if he sells Sica to you. Even if the 20$ driver would cost 60$ from another brand. The prices for Asian made chassis have exploded in the DIYS market, so you may get a comparable quality European SICA for the same or even a much lower price.

some european drivers get reviewed in foreign languages and don't show up in english language google searches. I've noticed this especially with German DIY audio websites. I'll try searching as I too have just found them and have a 210 mm frame size need that Sica's "8 H 2 CP" model looks promising for. Anyone else already fluent in German, Norwegian, Danish, or Italian and in one of those countries maybe could try searching. Of course you can use google translate and a VPN to get a better search.

Sica makes an amazing coax for the money. The 5 C 1.5 CP is one of the best coax of its size available and it costs less than most other drivers like it.
