Transplant?

I've acquired an old pair speakers that I really like the sound of. They offer a refreshing clarity. However, the cabinets are as ugly as sin. I do not possess the skills to manufacture my own aesthetically pleasing cabinets.

I can probably buy a pair of cheap, used speakers for £10/£15 on Ebay. If I buy speakers with a similar (12l) cabinet volume and simply swap the drivers and crossover, am I likely to maintain the original quality?

Here's a picture from the web. It's not only that I find them unattractive but cabinets are unnecessarily wide and only about 6 inches deep.

THat front baffle width is what is making part of the sound, if i were you i would keep them as they are.

If you are hellbent to try, why not, it might be fun. Buy cheaply new cabinets but don't go lower than 25-35% on present internal volume.
No any assurances it will work nicely, but you can always put the drivers back to old cabinet..

Thanks, I knew all of that. They sound very nice. I was hoping their performance could save them from the landfill. I've turned into a speaker man (as opposed to a cat lady). I can't keep taking in strays.
Euthanasia beckons.
Can I get a moment of silence?
