Now that's awesome. Thanks for the info 🙂razed civil war era barn near Rockville MD. Hence, the name. The same oak is used on the laser wood burned badge on the back.
How does this ported differ from TL version?Hi Bryguy,
Just keep the box dimensions exactly the same. The port when sealed with a plug doesn’t significantly change the volume (thickness of the tube is negligible). You are right, a stopper/bung placed on the vent exit will return these to original sealed alignment. Remove plug when extra bass is needed.
My Rockvilles are still unfinished. Maybe I should give them some boiled linseed oil now that they are really going to be staying in my office as near field speakers. The cabinets were made by my friend C.B., now retired but he used to be the carpenter/model maker for the Smithsonian. The oak used in the battens were salvaged from a razed civil war era barn near Rockville MD. Hence, the name. The same oak is used on the laser wood burned badge on the back.

Vunce did a nice job with the roundover radius on the vent. I like the white PVC color too.
The TL has a very different sound as the bass is deeper and has more of an extended slower falloff. You can hear more articulation in the bass with a TL. Bass reflex is less extended but more compact cabinet. Midrange is also more open on TL since driver does not suffer as much compressive effects.
KEF has a meta material (micro labyrinth) absorber. Probably works well but not sure if better than melamine foam?
I think BASF Basotect melamine foam (aka cheap white magic eraser sponges) work very well and I often use it in my speaker designs. Nano pores in reticulated melamine substrate.
I have not tried or heard of the Fane meta material absorber. Is there a link?

I intuitively thought melamine sponge is a good choice. Better than glass wool?

Question: where do y'all get the egg crate foam that's in the speakers? I would like to buy a bunch of it
I got these - they come all compressed in a vacuum bag. Give it a few hours and it reshapes itself.

You can also get mattress topper foam cushion sheets and cut it to shape. This is at Walmart etc.

As I seei it, the "metamaterial silencer" is tunablehttps://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3575092

Ok, thanks for the info! I saw stuff like that, but was wondering if there was a more economical insider's tip 😉 This works just fine though 🙂I got these - they come all compressed in a vacuum bag. Give it a few hours and it reshapes itself.

Wow, that's better than I expected. Will definitely be picking some up thenThe big chain store mattress tops are inexpensive. $10 will be enough for a few speakers.
You have a personal CNC router?
When making just two oddly shaped rebates, there is a trick to making a reverse template. There is an explanation somewhere in the multi-way forum on how to do this. CNC is useful for making production runs or if you are handy with CAD/CAM programming.

I do, although I barely know how to use it. It's just one of the dinky DIY ones you can buy online for <$300 new. It's called the Genmitsu 3018 ProVer. It's actually quite nice for how inexpensive they are. It's kind of loud, and the motor is weak, but it can make surprisingly accurate cuts. I've only used it so far to cut out tweeter holes on very small baffles, as well as just playing around a bit with scrap wood. I highly recommend them. You have a personal CNC router?
Found one at a huge discount on Facebook and I just had to pick it up. I've figured out the basics, but I still am not sure how to import CAD files. Sure it's not too difficult, but it's not something I've played with yet
