I think that is the same ballpark as the new SME Model 60. Swoopier at least. The blue one in particular.

The retailer gets ~ 40% of 60k per unit, and Linn gets (60% of 60K * 250) = $9M of revenue. Subtract parts cost, assembly labor cost, and overhead costs ... and it's not really a gigantic pile of net profits. Particularly when you smear those 250 sales across (N > 1) years.

Not sure why I remember it but I got my Linn for $400 Aussie dollars at Stereo Supplies. The dollar was strong in those days now 0.66 $US. Now kicking myself I sold it of course.
Nice, & I'd certainly not complain if I had one sitting on the old rack 😉 but the price is utterly ridiculous -time was a few years back when it had fallen out of fashion you could pick up a very decent LP12 for about £350 - £500. OTOH, anything related to an LP12 has gone through the roof of late, so perhaps not all that unusual...
I wish people would design an anti-static lid which also acts as a faraday cage to help reduce mains hum pickup... Such a simple improvement on the standard perspex lid. A turntable costing $60k should have some attention to electrical performance you'd think?
Tha average i* fan never heard of Linn. All they know is vinyl is trendy so they must have one. Especially if it is compatible with iPhone. The fact that it is expensive differentiates their stuff from the crowd.
They built a run of LP12’s in 2012 to mark the 40th anniversary using highland whisky cask oak for the plinths and they sold at IIRC $25k each. Can’t remember the run size. My neighbour has an LP12 and a $3k van den Hul cart. I don’t know what all the fuss is about - not any better than a DL103.

Everyone likes different flavors. My daily is an old AT33PTG, and to me it's a LOT better than a DL-103.

I'll stick to my Hydraulic Reference. Not that this LP12 variation isn't pretty. I like the Highland whisky cask origin for the 40th anniversary version though -definitely a good idea. Although as a fan of Highland whiskies... 😉
A much better looking deck IMHO, and you got a bottle thown in with it.
For the 50th, they seem to be catering to a completely different demographic.
