It states Birch from Baltics, and it looks the part. https://www.homedepot.ca/product/al...-x-4-feet-baltic-birch-handy-panel/1000127323
Theres another 17mm dimention. But they call it on 3/4", close enough but not right on the mark.
Also it comes in off long span dimensions . But I encountered at least two in the past year that said the stuff there is g****** and they werent happy with it. That it got voids and such, after they had cut it. Maybe their saw blade wasn't particularly smooth, who knows. I don't know. The best way is to try some and find out the hard way? Try one sample piece first. But it could be a 40 dollar knock. If your that particular with material in certain cases.

I count 8 plies. BB should have 9 for 12mm, but that it counts even is weird.
D\DO note that we have found that Chinese & Russian “BB” can be quite poorly QCed.

Thats what I want ^. I went to have a look in person, I had trouble finding it as advertised in the store. I past on the nicest 3/4" stuff, well the nicest looking layers, I seen better void free elsewhere but its out of stock atm.
I got some 1/4 its only being used for a treatment. Voids! But not as bad. Ill have to fill them in because the edges will show. The surface veneer looks better than the edges.

These days I can take forty years of experience and expertise, throw in a couple bucks, and buy a cup of coffee. Leave now if you don't want to listen to PawPaw's harangue. I started my career as a patternmaker. The first Baltic Birch I ever saw was a product of Finland. It made the plywood available in the States look like hammered dog *. (I did that-you are welcomed admin) Man it was tight, not to mention uniform and void free. Then the Soviets saw this and said "Hey-we got Birch." They flooded the market with pretty good ply. We ate that * up because it was half the price. We all know what happens under Marxism though, and I reckon we all know the "rest of the story." The Finns said "Okay-cut them trees down-we shall save ours." Now the Chinese have gotten in on that action. They send huge wood processing ships to any old port in a storm. There they take on logs, then sail to the open ocean and crank up the saws. They process the logs, throw the waste into the ocean, turn around, and deliver Finnished(pun intended) wood products to the same port they picked the raw logs up from. What we get today pales in comparison to what the Finns supplied thirty years ago, but let us not forget-Capitalism rules.
Aint it the truth ^.
I can get the super nice furniture grade 5'x5' real deal stuff its nice but, thats the place thats out of stock currently. By real I mean the stuff with perfect layering and completely void and knot free. But it will make the wallet a fair bit lighter.
I wasn't exactly looking for any at one time. But have observed the baltic plys at places I go that was not very nice, It might of been Asian. Anyway the point is some of the tricksters started preparing it in the same off euro dimensions. As the stuff as mentioned up there. Why else would other suppliers follow suit with sizes if it wasn't to further dupe us customers?

Yep-if you are buying 5x5 you are buying the better stuff. There is a reason for that. Commercial buildings, especially retail stores, are laid out on a ten foot grid as opposed to the eight foot grid in residential construction. The best stuff comes in some incomprehensible foreign unit of measurement.

And purpotedly still best, but the Baltic States do a good job.
When we got feed up with the Russian stuff (sheets where they differed significantly in thickness over the sheet, and more), we switched to Murphy Ply. They say Baltic Cores with maple veneers. It is REALLY good. About twice the price of the Ruskie stuff. Easily worth it.

The Russian stuff we got was 5x5.

Ev
Even the Russians know how to measure-most of the time. Seems lately though that they underestimated.he Russian stuff we got was 5x5.
I live in Eastern Texas. Depending on how many John Wayne movies one has watched he might view Texas as a vast expanse of sun-parched prairie, but such is not the case. I live in a sub-tropical rain forest. The quantity, size and diversity of trees here is quite impressive. As a native son I love me some trees but I am not adverse to chopping them down and making what I need and want from them. I built myself a chainsaw mill that does 28ft. The bar is 50 inches. The boards I mill lend themselves more to open baffles. Needless to say I do not use much glue.
When I win the lottery I don't play I'm going to buy a swing blade mill. That is really impressive planet10. Drop me a PM and introduce yourself.
This is Cypress. The density is such that it makes any component sound better!(snake oil alert!) This log came from the Calcasieu River bottom in western Louisiana. Pardon the mess-I'm an old bachelor.

I thought my cross sawn oak desk was nice. Well its still pretty nice.
Those would make a killer looking desk tops planet10! Amongst other nice things.
I usually get vg harwood plywood from a private source but theres some waiting to do for more. I wanted it now. Its way better than the crap I seen out today, so it will be worth waiting.

Quarter sawn oak* I made a typo previously.
Lumber costs climb fastest it seems. https://www.bellforestproducts.com/curly-hard-maple/
Reclaimed wood and salvage is a good gig to be in to.
Do you every go diving for it planet10? I seen some dudes doing that on a tv show. It looks like fun except for the aligators. You couldn't get me in that water with all the gators lurking about in the black water. Viz is pretty much zero, they have to rely strictly on feel to locate logs down there 😳.
