Valvo E 88 CC vs. ECC88

Hi.

I'm building a Gyraf Oultec tube Q.

Circuit is designed for a ECC88 tube.

I have com a across a Valvo E88CC tube, but not sure if this will work.

I have read that the difference is in the amp current for filament. both have a voltage of 6.3V

Some datasheets for E88CC states the current for filament is 300 mA wheres others says 365 mA.

Current for ECC88 is 365 mA.

Differences ECC88 vs E88CC is that E88CC allows a little more plate voltage. No problems using E88CC whenever a ECC88 is used.
This tells me that JJ's E88CC is NOT a real E88CC, but a relabelled ECC88 instead. Which is no surprise when you look at their ECC803S, which has not too much in common with Telefunken's original. Their ECC83S is much closer to Telefunken, though.

Anyway, in my experience it doesen't matter too much which of these tubes are plugged into the socket, as far as they're not faulty. Even old, pulled PCC88's usually work with just 6.3 V at their heaters. And I agree upon the properties of - still relatively cheap - Russian 6P23-EV's.

Not forget that the e88cc is a SQ tube (special quality) and have a much longer life expectance.
Correct.
According to the last known convention from Western Europe:
  1. 1st letter: heater voltage: E=6.3V
  2. 2nd & 3rd letter: number of electrode: C=triode, L=pentode
  3. Following numbers: socket and model designation
  4. For Special Quality, usually 10K hours: reverse 2 & 3 above, thus E88CC
After the Euro guys stopped making tubes, anyone is free to put any label on anything.
