Amplifers for 53v smps

I found a bunch of these in my own basement, too, just recently. I had bought them to power IRS2092 amps originally, and would also like to find a modern amp to pair them with, so I am also interested in this topic.

The best RTR amp that I have found that will pair nicely with one of these is the Hypex UCD400HG HxR, which requires dual rail power supplies like the AbleTec. The amp module costs about $115 USD each and is still widely available. With a rail voltage of 53V you can only get about 300W out of it into 4R max. Given the crest factor in music signals you could run a pair of the UCD400HG HxR off of one AbleTec PS and make a nice stereo amp.

The only thing I would caution you against is that the heatsink bar on the PS does not seem to be insulated from some of the devices. I once got a pretty good shock when I touched it while powered up and running. So I would not bolt it to a chassis heatsink without double checking for this issue first, or use an isolated internal heat sink for it.

I found about 20 able tech smps in a box in my mom attic was wondering if I could get some recommendations on what to build with them
A class AB amp that works well on +/- 53V rails for 8 Ohms is the LJM L12-2, which will deliver over 100W into 8 Ohms at that rail voltage. It's a proven design that is relatively inexpensive and you can purchase them already mounted on a heatsink from Ebay or AliExpress. Using 53V for 4R loads will produce too much heat but there is a mod for the AbleTec amps that involves adding one resistor to the underside of the board to reduce the rail voltages to, e.g. +/- 48V. This would be better for use with 4 Ohm loads that would get you about 150W into 4R.

The L12-2 is a mono board. Two of them plus an AbleTec will make a nice amp.
