Hi guys, I recently (and finally) got able to buy a vintage CD player, in fact I have bought 2 Sony CDP-608ESD, they are working well and I love them, previously I use to own a CDP-X339es witch is already dead due laser issues, I would like to give a try to one of this chinese compatible part to check how they perform, so I can have it on hand on a future fix of the laser, I am pretty sure that will not last forever the ones I have right now, will this compatible part work same as the original?......

KSS-151A is for the CDP-608esd, not for the CDP-339es.
CDP-339es uses KSS-272A and almost sure KSS-271A.

Hi Manolo. The kss-151A costs around €250 to replace. I have a very good friend who has a Teac with this broken laser unit. Since the replacement is so expensive, he told me not to change it.
Do you think there is a possibility to replace only the laser diode?
Would it be more or less easy to replace?

Very difficult to replace the laser diode.Do you think there is a possibility to replace only the laser diode?

KSS-151A fail very rarely and it is unlikely that yours is faulty.
Get someone who repairs CD players to look at it. Most probably you just need servo aligned and general service; cleaning of limit switches, belt replacement, that sort of thing.
I am sure that the module's laser diode is broken. I have replaced many complete optical modules in other CD players.
I never dared to change only the laser diode, I think its alignment would be difficult to achieve properly. I would like to try it and if someone already did it I would like to ask for your help or advice...

What's are basis of your certainty?I am sure that the module's laser diode is broken. I have replaced many complete optical modules in other CD players.
And what is the laser power output that you have measured?
The consumption (mA) of the laser diode during the seconds that it is activated is five times higher than the mA that it says on the factory sticker. Among other things...
Well, the 5 times more current would indeed suggest that it is not healthy. I have never seen one like that. The consumption (mA) of the laser diode during the seconds that it is activated is five times higher than the mA that it says on the factory sticker.
what are the "other things"? (as if the first was not enough).Among other things...
Does it light up at all??
You can not see any type of light coming from the laser, not in plain sight, not even in total darkness, nor with the mobile phone camera.
When a laser is alive you can see with the naked eye that there is a red light normally. Also with another laser diode also exhausted I can use the part of the photo-diode to check reflection current if I put it on top of the other optic to check. There is no reflection current either.
Please, someone who has successfully changed the laser diode of an optical group?

Fair enough. it is dead. You can not see any type of light coming from the laser, not in plain sight, not even in total darkness
I have only read in two different threads of the diode transplant being successful and only by two different guys. Others have tried but failed.
The solution is to get yourself a donor laser from another machine.
The most used KSS-151A I have ever come across, was from a studio TASCAM unit which was being used for over 25 years on the 24/7 basis.
It has laser used up by 35%.
Virtually no other used laser was ever more than 10% used up (maybe couple have reached 12% of current increase on the 22 Ohm resistor).
If you look on local Gumtree or something similar, you are bound to find one under $50.
There are plenty of players with these lasers, some of them are not audiophile at all.
I do not want to post brands and model numbers because these units would increase in price.
But if you filter all that have this laser on
http://vasiltech.narod.ru/CD-Player-DAC-Transport.htm#L
you will get 110 units with KSS-151A
Finally a valid answer for me, thanks!!!!
I think it would be important to know how to repair this specific model Kss-151A. Since the complete unit costs €250.
Most complete units of other models are less than $50 and it is not worth replacing just the diode.

Hi. I've replaced laser diodes in KSS-271A, 272A, 151A, 190A and another ones too.
The cd player with KSS-151A need to be adjusted too, and it is very critical. If you think you are able to do it yourself, in this forum there are some threads about replace laser diode.
In my Youtube channel there are some videos about it.
I collect 350€ for replace laser diodes plus shipping costs.
