1 cent a piece sounds resonable i think, afterall not a reliable resistor. For 1 cent i bought AB long time a go, not the best resistor but for sure reliable and good sounding for some freaks here
Retail they are not cheap that’s I don’t understand how are these resistors “mechanic really bad”!

Not in my experience. I've used Holco H4's for almost 20 years in mods and upgrades and never had one faulty resistor. This applies only to the old UK manufactured Meggitt Holsworthy ones and not the newer TE made items. Use common sense when bending the resistor leads to avoid potential damage to the resistor body.
