I'm reaching out to anyone on this forum that has Quad ESL-63's that might be located within a couple of hours to me in Hagerstown, Md. I recently discovered a rattling or buzzing sound coming from one of the panels. At first I only noticed the rattle on bass notes (stand up bass or synthesizer) but now it seems to be constant on any music played. The other panel has no issues whatsoever. I contacted Kent at Electrostatic Solutions, he said using a heat gun might solve the problem. I'm no expert with a heat gun, have any of you 63 owners had a similar issue as far as the buzzing or rattling? Has anyone here used the heatgun and if yes could I bring the panel to you to do the repair? I really don't want to experiment and possibly do damage to the panel. I checked Fedex shipping rates and it is almost $400 one way. I'm trying to avoid sending all the way to Kansas City. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Blair

thanks for the reference! 🙂
I don't know of anyone in that area that does quad work, but I don't have my ear to the ground as much as I should.

I would first contact Sheldon Stokes in NH, a member here who repairs Quads.

Sheldon is 6 mths behind but certainly very good. The Glue drying out is a huge Culprit and if your not buying Quads completely refurbished these 40/50/60 yr old will need a refurbish . It doesn’t pay to just piece meal repairs as the issues come up
Is the speaker silent when it is powered on and your amp is off, or disconnected? Any noises, thumps or hisses?

Hi, i have the same issue with one of my 63s. I glued all the parts of the loose stators, but the buzz still persists, on deep bass notes. ( the dust covers are taken off , so its not them)
I have fix couple of quads stators by sheldons advise ,and i notice than if you do it with cearfully it isn't so complicated.
You only have to be very careful

IMy experience is that it is not very good idea to try fix stators by heatguns glue.
I always land all parts detached ,clean starors from all glue by using wifes hairdryer
and glueing stators back by glue of which
Er audios repair kit contain.
Finally I mesure the diagrams resistance with Gigaohm meters.
And result is us good as original!
I recommend to try it yourself!
