American screws drive me nuts!

What is allowed nowadays and what one sees in reality is sometimes different.
Absolutely! I was at a very large cottage/residence in the Gatineau region of Quebec. Our bedroom had an en suite with a lovely Bear claw footed tub/shower with a wrap around curtain.

I could part the curtain and switch off the lights while standing in the tub!⚡

That’s not to code even a little bit and the place wasn’t that old.

That picture could be from a US Army shower. A few years ago some serviceman got electrocuted in a shower in Iraq due to poor electrical practice.
Grounding of piping is critical at times.

As another aside my mom once had a light over her kitchen sink that was not GFI protected and could be easily contacted while touching the faucet.
Got that fixed for sure.

I have never seen a photo of one of those shower heads with a sooty star printed on it so at a guess they are so cheap that if you call room service and tell them that the tape bomb has gone off they just pick another new one and a roll of tape from a box behind the desk and come to your room and fit a new one and arm it with a new tape bomb.
A few years ago I spotted a much bigger tape bomb in a local city street not that far from my home.

In the Danish Army we used to say, "Recruits are cheap. A new one only costs a postage stamp".

That tape bomb reminds me of a wooden utility pole in the neighbourhood where I used to live. It got struck by a large truck that was hauling a house (yes, really!) off the street. That utility pole remained wrapped in caution tape for over a year even though it was all but snapped in half.

A story about why the rebels clung to the pound and yard.

Tommy Jefferson was hep to the Metric thing. But a war came up. Later (I think typo on the date) he asked the French to send a KiloGram and a Meter. Somehow pirates (OK, privateers) intercepted the ship, the courier died before ransom. Then the French got annoyed at the US for not rushing to their aid against the Brits. Then Napoleon messed with the Metric system.
